Wow, with your 300kpa fuel reg, and a BPT PowerStat your car must be running rich as a pig :lol:

I actually use a tridon 82 degree thermostat that cost about $20 from direct auto, mackay. 300kpa regulator stopped pinging up high in rev range and fuel economy is better than before. :wink: :wink:

My head gasket blew at 180000Kms I think...I don't remember exactly, but it blew due to water pump failure during summer temperatures. 2nd engine with AU gasket, done probably 40000kms and still going...but I suspect it may be on its way out...due to running the drag strip with coolant dumpage at the lights.

phong =P~

Mine dumped coolant outside the block between cyl 5/6 @ 123,000k's

and why?, well that's been answered twice on the first page.

Mechanical sympathy and a bit of good luck are the answers.

Metalurgy is one culprit - metal expansion

Observing regular collant change intervals is good practice.

Regular systems flushes is also very helpful. NEVER using any stop leak products. When a head gasket is replaced there are the jackets in the block that you can put a small hole in the gasket to assist with pressure bleeding. Running the correct coolant and correct ratios or coolant helps.

But we all know its just good maintenance. We change oil and filters regularly, how often does the cooling system get a look into?

I have always kept a close eye on mine, a drop in coolant levels is a pretty good precursor that there is an issue.

My last falcon EL XR6 was maintained like this and never missed a beat, previous owner had done a head gasket, the service history suggested collant had been overlooked.

First ef gli went at 160 thou started leaking out the gasket down the block between 5 and 6. Then ef xr6 went at 200 thou and leaked out the gasket between 5 n 6 down the block.. Then my secons ef xr6 went at 120 thou and leaked out the gasket down the block between 5 and 6. But it now boosted so is a regular ocasion for head gasket to go.. My current daily driver has just gone its a el mont on 112 thou and its leaking out the gasket down the block between 2 and 3... so im not sure which one to vote for...oh well go the e series would rather be forever replacing head gaskets on e series than drive anything else

just cause your car is boosted does not mean it should go through more gaskets.. possibly warped head?

I personally use redline waterwetter, works a bit differently, as opposed to adding glycol to assist with removing the heat from water, it does the same job just differently. makes the water slippery.

Glycol coolant cannot be used in cars on circuits, if a cooling system leaks, glycol is very slippery and hard to wash off a track, water wetter is not as slippery and is easily washed off a track or road surface.

Make sure you get the water wetter red, blue is for diesel applications.

Otherwise, no problems with nulon products, just this one is my personal preference.
