Yes mine does, however it didn't when I bought it. The transmission casing was changed to a EF casing! :)

EL's didn't.....its quite possible though of a transmission change.

I've got a freshly rebuilt EB trans in mine so I now have the dipstick.

Can a dipstick be fitted to a non stick box? Is the hole there, but simply capped? Or is it an entirely different case moulding?

Thats a good question, i would like to know that too.

What i wanna know is what was fords logic in removing the dipstick, i think it is a rediculous idea.

First off, ford dont make or design the gearboxes - they just bolted them in.

Ive been looking over the changes made to the auto's since the EA's and quite a few external adjustments have been removed, like the band adjustments on the EF boxes for example. The removal of these parts (and I assume the dipstick as well) was done to reduce the number of ports in the housing and minimise the points of leakage which they had been criticised for. Further, these things are not needed if the service schedule is followed.

So if they remove points of leakage, fluid shouldnt go down, and if you service it when you should, you wont need to fill it up.

Its not a plugged hole, the casing would have to be stripped down then the hole would need to be drilled in the correct spot.

Ok i learnt this from the wrecker. ED and EF trans were nearly the same. They had the dip stick. Just the EF trans had a little better power out put. The ELs didnt have the dip stick (dont know why). As for the EFs without the dipstick, this is because they put EL trans in there because they made a new trans for the ELs and tested them in EFs before the ELs came out.
I remember we used to sell someone an ED trans if we didnt have a good EF one. Some people requested a EL trans in their ED.
As for me, i got a dipstick.
Remember the old joke??? There are 2 dip sticks in a ford, one the driver wheres the other one??? I used to reply for ford its on the trans but for holden its the driver and holden t*** used to get really s**t. LOL
