hey im having a look at the jim mock motorsport website
and looking at his dev1 kit

J.M.M.'s entry-level upgrade (DEV 1) provides more than 112kW at the wheels using a 2 ½ inch exhaust, headers, new spark plugs and tune. This retails for AUD$1,190.

Quote:
"We recently did a DEV 1 upgrade (comprising an exhaust, headers, spark plugs and a retune) on an EF Futura and power went from 95 to 133kW at the wheels on our Dyno Dynamics dyno. But that was exceptional – most cars make about 125kW."

Am i better off contacting jmm and getting dev1 kit
or goto exhaust specialist and buy exhaust and headers?
which is cheapest....

cheers

$ 4100 or just the stage 3 for over $3K

If you were to go JMM I would probably go the race series which have different headers, that guarantees >120rwkw for $1280. Prices as of 10/9/2003 - don't know if it has changed much. With these kits keep in mind that dyno testing and tuning is included which may cost a couple of hundred extra if you were to mix and match parts.

If you were to go other aftermarket brands, you could easily pay $1000 for headers, cat and exhaust, leaving you the $280 for dyno tuning and the performance spark plugs which are included in the DEV-1 kit.

I think that it is pretty reasonable from JMM providing their prices haven't gone up much, and you might be hard pressed reaching >120rwkw using various aftermarket parts.

price is fair IMO

an exhaust at most shops is going to cost about $800
add to that a tune and plugs its not to bad.

its cheap easy horsepower that i really dont think you need as yet.

How do they tune an engine that only has the standard EEC?

I imagine they would only be dynoing it to get before/after results and check air/fuel ratio.

Yep, thats all!

The extra money for the JMM kit is probably worth it, at least you know you're getting a combo that works. You could spend $900 elsewhere and lose performance :)

You might want to still get some quotes from around the place before going to JMM though, just to make sure that your making an informed decision when you decide which to go for.
