Just finished putting in a wade 1673 into my ef xr6, started up all good, all fine except for a whine.

im thinking it might be something with the tensioner? i put it back in the way it came out, it was apart? is that how it was supposed to be?

ive done this one time before, and it was a damn headache then aswell, but i just couldnt remember how i did it last time.

so there was the setting where 1. the whole unit locks into itself, then 2. when turning it with the allen key it pokes abit of it out, then 3. when turning it out again it all shoots apart.

which one of these is it supposed to be like?

just wanna know if thats the problem before i cause any damage!

It may be the tensioner is too tight and the chain is rubbing badly on one of the guides.

There should be a little bit (like 2mm) of slack in the chain at rest. If there's none, its too tight.

Do a search for the head gasket swap doco, there are a few decent posts on how to correctly install and set the tensioner, with lots of pics.
