well, fun ending to the day.

coming home from uni, give it a bit around a corner... about 200m later see the old low coolant light on the dash.. hm thats a bit strange it wasnt on a minute ago. pull into a side street kill it get and and hear that fuking noise of water pissing onto the road.

POS heater? hose (straight one about 30cm long) under the intake manifold decides its done enough work and retires, splitting for about 10cm. great, no getting home for me!

call a mate back, go to a local ford dealer, grab a new hose, back at the scene im just not in the position to be able to get under the car to reach the clamps. ok, give RAC a call, say they will send someone out. 30 mins guy shows up, takes a look and goes, nothing i can do, ill call ya a towie. 30 mins later the towie shows up and gives me a tow.

so now, the cars in the garage outside and ive gotta decide tomorrow if i actually wanna fix the POS or just let it rot there!

ah well, fun day for me tomorrow. least the tow was only 9km - so it was free :)

oh its amazing how when the smallest little things go wrong we wanna sell it and get something else.
But then something else may have more problems. Remember once you change the hose it wont happen for a long time. Its most likely still got the original heater hose on it so for the age of the car its done ok

if 1's failed on you, you're better off replacing the whole lot, at least you'll know exactly where you stand after that

just replace it, it's a hsoe. not like the things gone on you. remember the car is about 12 years old now so it's very very very reasonable that things like rubber hoses are passed there use by date!

I always replace all hoses every two years, its called preventative maintenence and all belts on the alternate two years.

I do a lot of mileage in the old girl and just cant afford to be let down in the middle of nowhere :x

As a subsequence I also ended up with a full set of hoses that are still in good nick as spares in the boot!

Anyhoo, s*%t happens, its not the end of the world it just seems that way sometimes!

Road side assistance are useless, they really are.

Does it need a jerry can of fuel? No
Do you need a jump start? No
Ok, i'll call a towtruck - nothing i can do here.

i'm not sure yet (still haven't had a look-see) but i'm pretty sure that's what went on mine sunday night. smoked em past the magna car club of hobart (FFS - it's a magna! you do not need a club!)and the light came on. nothing unusual there cause it's normally on due to small leak somewhere. but when the gauge starts going up and up and up, i thouhgt i'd bettter pull over. as soon as i stop, there's steam everywhere! it was coming from under the intake manifold so i thought it's the heater tap. so i drove it home with the heater on and the AC on to run the thermo's, got to the top of my street, shut it off and rolled home.

i could be clever and stop here, but i'd may as well say that i drove it the next day to work, it lost all the water i put in in that 5 minute trip. lunchtime, as soon as i poured it in, it came out the bottom twice as fast! so i drove it home and flogged the old man's focus for the arvo. now i've got a case of vannage - mitsubishi express LWB. bright yellow. with black stripe. it shames me, people think i own it :(
