I'm just wondering when people do an AU VCT conversion into E-series many go to the effort of wiring in an AU ECU/ harness? What is the advantage over an E series ECU with a J3 with the VCT fuel/spark maps flashed in?

Many have tried using an AU Series One (smartlock) ecu into an EF to Gain the Sequential Injection (EF's are wired for it)

You would benefit more with a J3 chip or change the wiring to an EL ECU with Dissy for timing adjustments.
Use a Jaycar RPM trigger for the cam timing.

Does this mean an AU VCT series 1 ECU can be plugged into an EF and work a VCT motor as it should with the benefit sequential injection even if its minor? Then I could get a J3 chip on top for extra herbs or economy? Or do mods need to be made with the loom etc?

As I said, many have tried.

I haven't known anyone to have had an AU in EF working. the pinouts vary a small amount.

afaik there wasn't a Series One VCT?

i have heard of attempts of useing a au series 1 ecu in ef and all have been un successfull..i know wireing pin outs are different so there were some wires to be changed,, im pretty sure "twase" tried it in his ef a few years back..

i originally ran my vct engine off the factory ecu using a jaycar rpm switch, and it worked great...

Yes I tried and the wiring loom change was extensive and mainly related to AC, ABS ..... I eventually got it running on LPG but unable to get the injectors to fire on petrol before I gave up.
The ECU I had was VCT series 1 and supposed to be Smartlock I also tried a AU non VCT Manual ECU again supposed to be Smartlock with the same result. The thinking at the time one of the following:
>Smartlock on E series was not compatible with AU Smartlock.
>Both ECU's were smartshield.
>Wiring error that I had missed and could not uncover.

I did try an AU BEM but unfortunately I plugged it into the EL loom beftore I discovered that the pins differ between them and may have fried it , again no change. At this point I gave up.

Thanks for the info guys. Definitely too complicated for me! Seems to run very well with EF computer at the moment so i'll leave it be.
