i bought this car with plans to spend nothing on it, just to last 14 months till off Ps so I can go turbo/v8

but got extractors 2nd hand cheap and had to fix exhaust for roadworthy :P

is there nothing i can do to make this car actually fun to drive? :(

was gona say your probly on your p's and your parents had it detuned to try and stop you killing yourself 8-)

hahaha. yeah i am on my Ps. Before this though I was driving a nissan 180sx turbo. Putting out 180RWKW and 418nm in a car that weighs around 1200kg. And parents trusted me in that, mum just didn't like that it was turbo...and in the end, mum borrowed it when her car was in for service, on a wet day and managed to wrap it round a pole...write off. However it was significantly over insured (agreed value) and I made ~$4000 profit from the insurance payout heh..

And yeah I guess that's the advantage of living at home, and that mum's work is 100m down the street - if I break my car 95% of the time one of the others will be spare for me to use

depends when you got your licence.
the old rules (before july 2007) were only rated by power to wight and capacity to weight.

i got really lucky and somehow vicroads granted me an exemption to drive turbo because i said i'm doing chemical engineering at uni (which is true) and I work at a servo (also true) and need to test different fuel types in n/a compared to turbo for a uni assignment

But that car was crashed by mum and written off and the exemption only covers one car...only got ~14 months of Ps left so figured I may as well wait and save more for a better turbo/v8 in 14 months :)

hi guys ! i am putting my new lsd in at xmas ! i only drive my car to and from work each day !
maybe 14klms round trip on suburban rds !
its an au 4ltr auto! was going to put the 3.45 centre in " but am considering the 3.71!
will my car be screaming its head of at say 110klms on the freeways or what !
or do i just stick with the 3.45 centre. i may go for a 400klm drive from sydney to foster and back once a year and dont need it screaming its head off the whole way. i am not to concerned if i use a little extra fuel every day. the au lacts a little straight line punch.
p platers need not reply ! lol. :D

3.7s will be fine. Could even stretch to 3.9s, but if you do a bit on the highway I wouldnt go any higher.

My exhaust has a drone around 2500-2700rpm so I wouldn't want it to be sitting there at 110...

Getting converted to manual today, another step towards making it better :D

Also managed to score some cheap EL thermofans+davies craig kit, and an xh snorkel with airbox which I'm gunna mod to fit one of the last remaining pieces of my 180sx, a 3A racing pod filter (was rated best pod filter by autosalon, ahead of k&n, HKS etc...)

edit: also dad has bought a new car, BMW 325ti M sport coupe. He's giving me a budget of $5000 to get him a nice exhaust and stereo, should spend $3k on stereo, $1k exhaust then get the exhaust shop to do something to my fairmont with the remaining $1k haha

Lol, I know autosalon isn't exactly the best source...but their pod filter article actually was quite good, had measurements of both air flow AND filtration, and the 3a racing pod really killed it.

Although to be honest I did try a few different pods in my 180sx, could not tell a difference haha, probs like 0.5kw or so. And that was on a turbo...probs like 0.1kw on a n/a fairmont compared to other pods :P

Either way it's sitting in my garage unused so may as well use it!

Hay man i can synpathsize with u2. ive been drivin my mates VS commo around (cos he has only got his L's and i got no rego) and thats so nice to drive lots of power and he's got a 3" exhaust 2.
Then i hope into my EB fairmont series1 and i fell like i jumped into a tracktor :( .

It's might have to do with ya throttle cable, as mine has got 1/4 thottle, becuase my acelarator cable that runs from the pedal to the T/B is fukced but the cruse cable is fine :| .
