by the looks of it, it's a worked 4.0L

i'd be sussin it out, that shouldn't happen even at high rpm.

I snapped a total of 3 valve springs in the time I had the Dev5a kit running. ^jAsE^ also snapped 2 (both at the same time). Both cars were rev limited with factory ECU at the time too!

Since then, I replaced the valve springs to a different spec, and had the Waggin's engine out to 7000rpm, no issues with valve springs!

I broke a valve spring the other day - crane, suited to the cam I run. Noone could explain how it happened, car is limited to 5000rpm and the motor and springs are only 5000k's old. I guess it could just be a casting weakness.

Hi
i dont know about being eager.
i have a ea 3.9 mpfi engine is stock except for extractors and xh snorkle
and it will pull all the way to 5500 rpm all day long . maybe its just a freak ??? . i can rev it to 6000 rpm if i feel eager but it will only pull to 5500rpm before the power starts to drop off...

it did it freeway driving, bout 3000,but i rang crow today, they said they've never had a problem ever with their valve springs, they have a new set on the way and want the old ones back to see whats gone wrong!they said the springs dont even work hard in the 4.0lt n that they have heaps of travel!it is pretty worked and im sure could pull 6-7000,still powering at 5500!

are they double springs?.
Going back in the old day's when I was heavily into street performance we used double valve springs recommended by the cam people. what we used to do is run the cam with the single outer spring for the first 500km & stay below 4000rpm. after that, install the inner valve springs & re-torque the head bolts & continue for another 500km until they saddled in. that is if it's a full engine rebuild.
some of those spring are harden to the point that they become brittle, if your inpatient they will snap or damage the cam. its alway good to run it in first.

patient's is the key to unlimited reliable km's.
