UPDATE. ute starts; runs fine.. bit choppy under hard throttle at idle but otherwise good. bit lower idle base than i thought to....
at fist no dash lights and no start. rang ford service here(yes i know; usually last resort!) and of course the guy in the service dept i spoke to didn't even know what model was smartlock or when first coilpacks appeared. thanked him and rang parts dept, got the advice: leave ign. turned on for hour or so and cross fingers.
after that(10 mins ago) gave 1 last try and bang! fires up straight away, drives like a champ.

any ideas??!!! ecu self learn(turned off, not running!!!)? ignition self learn????
just want to know now!
auto sparkies must all hate their jobs...........

usually if you change the ignition barrel it needs to relearn it and the ignition needs to be left on for an hour or so, ive swapped computers beforre and never had a problem?

UPDATE 20/1/12
first full tank after ecu transplant; at 3/4 mark on gauge and done 452 k's.... a marked improvement! gotta go thru another couple tanks i reckon for definitive results but so far already gained 20-50 k's at 3/4 level(i fill to top of pipe..expansion be damned!)....
pretty pleased so far but does/will this prove better fuel maps for sedan issue ecu's? your all thinking "obviously" but from lack of response, hard to tell..
any similar experiences welcome.....
