hey all,

will the doughnut type AU knock sensor from an AU VCT engine work with an EF XR6 ECU?

Ive read conflicting posts on here, some say it works and some say it wont.

now the people that say it doesn't work, did they forget to run it on PULP and that was the cause of the pinging??

can anyone help me out here?
thanks.

It will work, just chop the AU plug onto the EF loom. Worked fine on the XR6 HP motor I ran for a bit.

you wouldn't happen to remember what colour wires i need to join?

the AU plug has yellow and yellow/red wires
the EF plug has black/white and yellow/red wires

any help would be much appreciated.

I assumed yellow + red would be the same on each loom, so I joined them together. It worked.

Haha I dunno if its right but everything worked fine with it that way. I had a tune that needed PULP, but if you run it on premo regardless it wont ping.

ill keep all my questions about this in here in case someone else at a later date comes across the same problem.

well i have an AU knock sensor plug with a few inches of wire from the original AU loom
one wire is yellow, other wire is yellow/red

now when i was talking to krisisdog about this yesterday i got the wiring colours for the EF loom from my workshop manual (black/white yellow/red)

BUT when i got round to swapping the AU plug onto the EF loom i discover my EF loom has
blue/black blue/white wires for the knock sensor

all 3 workshop manuals i have looked at this morning say that the EF loom should have
black/white yellow/red wires

anyone have a clue why this might be?

the AU yellow wire goes to ef the black white wire...
and the au yellow/red wire goes to the ef yellow/red wire..

with the difference in your loom. 1 wire is connected to the ecu signal ground, and the other is signal..

on your map sensor is there a black/white wire?? of does it have a blue black wire??

ok the blue/ white wire will be the signal ground, which is what all the sensor earths are connected to, so the au yellow wire will go to the blue/white wire and the au yellow/red will go to the blue/black wire...

Don't bother it will not work. I tried using the AU knock sensor when I put the AU motor in my EF, Didn't work it pinged its head off. I had to drill out the block and install the EF knock sensor.

Well it didn't work for me on an EF ecu and it was wired correctly, I checked before I put an EF sensor in.

and with an EL ecu i never even bothered to run a knock sensor. You just set the dizzy up right and its not required. I never had ping issues with an EL ecu. EF must have a working knock sensor because you cant change the timing without a chip.
