Gday

Im about to put my Wade 1671 cam in (similar spec to a 1673) and i have bought a set of Crowcams double valves springs to suit AU head and i have been looking around to see what other advantages are of having double valves springs, other then valve bounce. I have come across that the more presure on the valves i can lose power from it, is this true if so how much would i lose :?: and is it worth putting the double valve springs in.

Cheers

i doubt u would loose any power

more effort would be required to open the valves but nothign i would worry about

they are a great idea

so do it!

whats the specs on the cam?

i wouldnt fit double valve springs unless they are needed for the cam, as they put alot more stress on the valve train. Can also cause faster camshaft wear....

yes you will loose a small amount of power, minimal though, its only natural, more force is required to compress the spring, so some of that motive force that would normally make it to the rear wheels is used for the valve spring compression, BUT it should be offset by your cam choice, providing you havemade the correct choic that is.

Seems like a mild cam, i wouldnt use double valve springs.

Something like crow XR springs would be perfect, theyre $92 on the crow website, but thats for an Eseries head, im not sure whats the equivalant for the hybrid head?

Compare the the wire diameter of the Crow items to the std items. They may be very similar, just one can cope with more lift....???

I would not use double valve springs.
The double valve springs are only used for valve lifts over .525 thou. your cam is only .502 thou which the xr6 springs would be fine.
A heavyer valve spring that is not required will make you loose power even strip a lobe off the cam.

Would the standard springs be able to handle that lift though?

good ol mate gezza, everytime im looking at something your about a week ahead of me and my questions are answered.

no double valve springs for me then. crow xr's it is.

im going the 1673 with lobe sep opened up 2 deg to suit auto.

gotta source a spare cam first tho.
question though: what made you ditch the 1521a? too much lift?

yeah i might take the doubles back and get some xr ones if i can, i dind't have 1521a, i use to get mixed up with the numbers aswell. I have a 1502Au in mine atm which is similar to the 1636. So i have a pretty mild one in atm i just want to go to the level up.
