hey everyone im form tasmania and have been working on a ba wagon for a while and have finally just got the car back from being tuned and it only made 150rwkw? the car has a uni filter ram pod down behind the fog light, ss inductions throttle body, plazmaman plenum, under drive pully, stage 2 camtech cams and valve springs, jmm 3000 stall converter, pacemaker 4495 headers, 3" venom cat and 2.5 inch hooker muffler. i asked the guys that tuned it to modify the merge collector and make a whole 3" system because whats under it atm is a mainly stock exhaust (2.25" im pretty sure) and the hooker muffler and venom cat. would the lack of power be due to the state of the exhaust? have talked to some people down here and have suggested full 3" mandrel system with new muffler and another tune.

what are your opinions on this?

Id say that the exhaust would be at least part of or most of the issue. Usually the first mod is the exhaust not the last.

yeah it was, first thing i did was take the old mufflers out and replace them and get xforce extractors and when the shop fitted the pace makers they were supposed to do the change exhaust before tuning it but didnt want to so now iv got to get it done somewhere else.

keep in mind also that a hi-stall will lower dyno figures a bit.

best to get it out on a strip and see what times she runs.

Dyno figures aren't the be all and end all. What does the car feel like after the mod's? Does it feel a lot quicker than before?

Have you got any spec's on these Camtech stage 2 cam's? Would be interesting to see what powerband it is designed to work in.

taking it to the drags would be nice but im not sure when there is another round down here and yes i hav heard it will be lower due the stall converter.

dosent feel much faster at all and i have the specs around here somewhere ill try and find them.

i believe the exhaust is the issues to and it was just there to get by because i never thought id take the car this far and when it went to get tuned they were suposed to make up a custom one but didnt and yes it is a mainline dyno.

thanks for the help so far guys.

The 3,000 rpm stallie is whats giving you the low rwkw reading.....they rob hp like you wouldn't believe.

would have been interesting to see a result before and after the intake. As mentioned though don't be too concerned about numbers... unless it drives like a bag of schitt lol.

Even with a 3000rpm stallie, shouldn't be robbing that much HP? I mean, guys are making a lazy 170-175rwkw from exhaust, intake and tune... You've got all that, plus cams, underdrives, tb upgrade, valve springs. With all that, should be making around the 190-200rwkw mark, and then with the 3000rpm stallie, might bring that back down to 180ish? I'd suggest getting a twin 2.25" or even twin 2.5" from the cat back. You'd have no flow issues then.

go twin 2.25" or single 3" you will be restricting the power it can make with a 2.5"

Go for a run on the Dyno with the exhaust removed from the Extractors then after the cat, then you will see if its actually the exhaust is the issue - its all good and well to recommend a different system but first you have to prove thats the restriction - I have over 200rwkw with a 2.5" system but the cat is new and the mufflers are new.

Removing the Exhaust on a Dyno makes little or no differences to the RWKW so if it makes a huge difference in rwkw you have found your issue :)

Jmm 3000 HiStall is just a modified Std Stall Convertor - it has the same rotating mass and the rwkw loss compared to a stock convertor would be virtually the same - does it actually flash to 3000rpm or 2800rpm?

Plazmaman Plenums are a bit of a hit and a miss IMO - then plenum size has to be exact to match the specifiations of your engine and your mods - did you get it custom made by them after you gave them all the details of your engine. head, cams etc etc

SS inductions throttle body - what size is this?

Is the intake pipe to the uni filter the same size as the throttle body or bigger as if its smaller this will also be a restriction

Also what dyno was it - Dyno Dynamics or a Mainline Dyno or other........And can you post the Dyno Sheet up?

how does it go off the mark? with plenum, throttle body, and cams, it must take quite a few revs to get going!

does your power curve actually peak on the dyno chart? you could have a miss match between intake air speed vs revs....

if you have upgraded the throttle body id dare say its oversized for your application...

again with your plenum, the long runners no loner exist and will only make power at top end... this, coupled with an oversized throttle body may mean that the peak power range for your combo may be at 7000+rpm, somewhere your motor is never going to go....

i may be wrong, but the 1st thing id try is putting the stock throttle body back on and see how it feels... this wont cost you anything

as the others have said, a dyno chart would be interesting to see

)go and get second hand xr6 turbo exhaust cat back for 100-150 and another 100 to get it fitted,,,,
2)then go and get your cat converter changed with a magna flow 3" metalcore one,,,they are normally 450fitted at the exhaust shops but go and get one from ebay (get magnaflow brand) around 200 and pay another 80 to get it fitted
3)then get a performance headers. if you have money go and get pacemaker 4490 or 4495 depends on what you wanna do. 4490 for a streeet use and it gives you power at the lower rpm and if you wanna gain power at the high rpm go and get 4495...4495 is for a track mostly...or there is another option and you can go and get a redback brand extractor which is cheaper than pacemaker.
4)then get your air induction changed, dnt have to spend big $$$, just go to ford and but ford fpv typhoon air box kit. you will receive different airbox with a second intake tube on it amd wotha bigger snorkel. this kit will give you decent performance and it is only $170 dolars and very easy fitting, only takes 20 minutes, also you hve to change your air filter to k&N air filter. k&N panel filter is about 70-80 dolars.
5) now you have to get a flash tuner to get your car tuned and this is on special at the moment...you can get it from KPM in NSW or you can get this from Bluepower racing development in Victoria. these two places are selling on a special price of $450-$460 at the moment. they are normally around $600-$700. you will just plug this on your car and it has soem tunes in it and you will press the button and it will upgrade your car's ecu and your car will run better and it will make you gain extra rear wheel kw.
if you do what i have told you up to this point, you will gain 27-30 rear wheel kw easy....if you want more power there are some other options as well to keep getting done...

6) now you have to get a transmission cooler, because factory one is crap and it makes the coolent get in to your transmission and in a time your transmission will be gone and you will get a bill of 2500 at least,,,,transmission cooler is around 200-250 fitted. there are threee brands you can trust; b&M, PWR, and motorcraft....and also you have to get your transmission fluid changed to transmaxZ...this make your transmission last much much longer and only this oil wnt demage your transmission....
7) now the biggest change on your car will be diff gears and lsd,,,,if you wana good take off, you have to get your diff gears changed to 4.11 and also get your diff changed to lsd one....this will cost you anywhere around 1400-2400. depends where you go and which parts you use....
8) hi stall converter,,,,this will make you rev much faster and you will pass the lower rpm quiker,,,,ba is very slow car on tha take off because of its weight, but with a hi stall you will get shock....this isnt must but diff gears are must on ba series cars,,,
9) then you can get cams, stage two crow cams. they are normally 850 but there is a guy who sells them for 650 on the fordforums.com.au, and his nick is nosxr...everyone gets from them....if you math your cams with a hi stall, your call will be amazing, you will get 0-100 around 5.2 sec,,,if you get all the works i have listed....
10) now at this point you have to get a custom flash tune. you have to take your to the decent tuner and you have to get your car custom tuned, which is around 500-750 depends on where you go and experience of the tuner....if you are in victoria, i will say bluepower racing which is the best shop in australia/////
