Took the XR to get the head gasket done yesterday and at approximately 2pm i find out the exhaust side of the head is corroded, not a great deal but enough for it to get sent to town to get fixed!!!!! :(

THEN i find out the tensioning chain has been snaped somehow, the headbolts were shaved down and warped somehow and the tensioner pulley or something like that is also broken!

The mechanic asked me if i had alot of engine noise at higher rpms and well yep its true but i just thought it was the cam (normal engine noise).

Fkn just the thing i need!!! Its gonna cost roughly $1200-1400 to get fixed.

The mechanic tried to source replacement heads but because the XR is Tickford and its also on LPG he could not find a replacement.

Gay!!!!!

Yeah well im seeing how much its going to cost to fix the head repairs but if its not a great deal then yes it will be getting port polished etc.

Im not paying over $1500 so if its gonna cost more than that than i will be leaving it until future mods are done.

What rapier said.. I'm paying $850 for EL ticky motor that's done ~140k and by the looks of it has the head gasket done because its had the rear water jacket tapped..

Pity i paid $700 last year to get my headgasket done on my ebii motor..

That sucks. Me thinks it's about time you got acquainted with a spanner mate. You'd save yourself so much money.

Ill agree with ya.

Thats also my worst fear...Something f**k up and everything going wrong. :(

Id go get a $300 motor and put it in so i have a car then rebuild a decent one. Ticky head, cam, head work and so on.

Mmm believe me i wish i were more mechanicly sound, i mean i get 2 days off a week and that would be enough time to do it in but i just wouldnt have a fkn clue how to do it all.

Yeah that would have been handy but i have Duel fuel also.

Anyway i have the money to fix it but that still doesnt make me happy!

LPG heads are no different! In old cars yes they might rebuild the head to suit, same as rebuilding the head to suit unleaded petrol, but in something late model lieke your EF it's no different!
