Hi everyone, i have an Xf with the original carby engine in it.. and its on its absolute last legs.. ive been nursing the poor baby along for the past 6months, trying to get every last bit of life out of it as im poor.. she's leaking water out of the engine, as well as leaking oil too. How nice.
Its got to the stage where i have to put water in it every day.
Ive found a cheap XF with 300,oookms on the clock, however it doesnt leak anything and it has twice as much power as my car, even though the engines are identical. High kilometres yes, but the whole car is only $250 so im happy to buy it for the engine if i get a few years out of it.

My only problem is i dont know enough about engines to do the Engine Transplant myself so im going to be paying a mechanic. What will i pay in labour for an engine changeover? Does anyone on here have a good XF engine for sale?

hi

Have you tried ringing the wreakers? ask how much they charge per hour. use the lowest quote you get from a handful of them & see if the next guy will undercut it.
they should be super quick pulling it apart.
allow another couple of hours or more to put everything together.

Why not just buy a clean ED or so? You can pick one up for $2000 or so these days, it'll cost more but be a lot easier for now and the ED will be a lot more reliable in the long run if your XF has been through enough to have a dead motor. Plus, you'll end up with a much nicer car :)

n0t always,i've seen s0me pretty s**t ed's aru0nd.

i like the aut0matic assumptin that we can all just g0 0ut and buy an0ther car when the current 0ne breaks d0wn.

0r just put a t5 in if the aut0 bx plays up a bit.

if s0me0ne is willing 2 pay f0r it then i'll d0 it,till then i'm happy with what i have...and what i plan 0n d0ing.
