I had my ute on the dyno yesterday. Heres a list ofmy modifications:
DEV5 JMM cam
JMM race triple valve spirngs with moly retainers
JMM adjustable vernier cam gear
Increased compresson ratio now at 9.75:1 using triple layer steel headgasket and skimming the head
Oversize stainless steel valves in bronze guides
Race ported and polished head and combustion chambers
Custom made oversize inlet piping and other airbox mods
Pacemaker headers and 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent exhaust with modified cat converter
Autolite 985 plugs and JMM spiral wire leads
Using 95 octane premium unleaded

the figures were 159Kw ATW at 5000rpm and 340Nm at 3900rpm ATW
using a Dyno Dynamics Dyno it calculated this to be 200Kw and 418Nm at the flywheel.
My question is what sort of 1/4mile times do you think i could get with this setup and a manual XG(1400kg) with a 2.92 diff ratio and 255/60/15 rubber.
i was thinking mid to low 14's.

I'm thinking weight will be your biggest problem. Specifically a lack of it over the rear wheels. You will definately be needing to add some weight in the tray.

Your diff ratio is also a bit low for sprinting. Try and get a 3.27 slippy centre and you should be quicker.

If you can get traction, you should be in the mid to low 14's.

slightly OT,

But how much did those mods set you back, if you don't mind me asking.

exactly - my mate has an XG ute and has chronic traction issues @ the drags with a lack of weight :?

How can it be making less torque at the wheels than it is at the flywheel? Torque at the rear wheels is mutiplied by your gearing.

ie.. if in 1:1 gear, multiply by 2.92 for your diff ratio.

I ported and polished the head myself with a bit of help from my brother. so there's a major saving. I later found out it wasn' too bad a job. Take alook at the pics in the cresent motorsport stage 5 head forum. my head is pretty much identical to these pics now. i'll try to post the pictures i took with a digital camera of mine soon.

The extractors and exhaust i paid $600 fitted and the rest of the parts cam, cam gear, vavles, valve springs, headgasket, plugs, and leads were from JMM in Altona. Roughly $1700. then the retainers were $140 from my local machining joint, who i also got to radius the valve seats and put an extra 30degree cut on the back face of the valves to further improve flow. i also put on a new timing chain and tensioner approx $200 myself as my engine has done 200plus kays. i made my own inlet snorkel out off alluminium and fitted a 85mm pipe from the throtle body to the airbox and fitted a K and N filter $100.

So ultimately it set me back about $2750. but there are a couple of little things i need to fix like one or two noisy tappets etc.

is your ignition timing advanced at all?

At the moment it is set at standard, but i plan on advancing it up until it pings and then take it take a couple of degrees.

Your spot on with your estimate mid to low 14's but as everyone said that's WITH TRACTION.

The mods and the numbers all sound good. I do wonder about the peak torque at 3900rpm and peak power at 5000rpm seems to close I would have thought peak torque would have been lower and peak power higher but who knows.

The torque has been calculated out for you from the kw I guess as the dyno will show lots more than that because of the gearing multiplying the torque. If you know kw and rpm then you can calculate torque and vice versa.

Just realised this is one hell of a dig!!!!!!!!!!!!! f**k lol

hmmm i rekon you could pull more out of it with those mods.... But you do have standard timing that could be up to 10rwkw.... get some slicks for the 1/4 lol i rekon 14.2 With only 1400 kg but if u chucked in some 3.45's or 3.7's bring on 13's (with traction)

159kw atw = 200kw ate? no..dont think so mate.. try higher!..

rear wheel kilowats.. times 1.34.. = engine kilowats roughly.. so

159rwkw X 1.34 =213.06kw ate... 8-)

For an auto thats a good estimate, but you wouldnt get that much loss with a manual, maybe times 1.25?
