Hi all. New here and hope you can help me out. I have a cherry Mauritius Blue EF Gli which has blown the head gasket at 118000ks. I can get an EF xr6 which has been T-Boned for a song and would appreciate any help on fitting the engine to my beloved Gli. I also have an AUll with a few issues. Factory gas/petrol.......she backfires on gas under mild acceleration and yesterday the transmission started changing between 4th and 3rd at 110kph once it had warmed up. HELP ME PLEASE :?

What do u want to know about the xr6 engine into ur gli?
It's the same motor besides the head/ tickford bits etc, it's basically plug and play no other mods needed like cutting

Correct just the heads are different and cam and I think maybe compression?
It's up to u if u think it's easier to change a motor or a head, personally I'd put that Ticky head on cos u could drop in the xr motor and 1 week later there goes it's head

My Baby has a "hydrauliced" and the donor car has only 79000Ks. Do I have to change the ECU and any connections? I will put a new gasket and bolts in it before i change it anyway. Mad if I dont.

Probably the usual broken head bolt between 5 & 6 let in the fluid.

I reckon it will be much easier to just pull the engine out of the donor car...if you can with the transmission as well...has been done before. Swap them over and it's pretty much plug and play. Just make sure you label everything so that you won't forget what goes where. The only thing you have to keep in the old car would be the A/C compressor...can't be removed unless gas has been release professionally. Also maybe power steering pump if you don't feel like changing the pumps over.

Also changing ECU will be a good idea too. Different fuel mapping to suit higher fuel reg and different cam profile.

Head, Cam, Exhaust Valves are slightly larger, Compression Ratio is different, Fuel Regulator is different, Computer has a different tune on it with better Spark and Fuel maps
