A couple of my friends are going out and buying xr6 heads one owns an ef xr 6 motor and head now the other wants an au VCT head both for ef's... Now all tickford done was spec up the heads of the falcons with harder valve springs and different cam and a bit of porting.. Now instead of going to all that trouble couldn't they just go to an engine rebuilder and get them to spec their standard heads up for them?? Diff cam new better springs.. Higher compression? Save time and maybe money Porting and so on?? If they did that it would be the same correct

I mean it would save them time looking for xr motors and the au vct has variable cam timing that would have to be incorperated into the earlier models with au ecu's.... And all this xr gear isnt cheap! That's why I'm asking

Thanks people :)

yep, just get the std head ported, fitted with bigger exhaust valves, heavier valve springs and a nice aftermarket cam, and you will get more than the std tickford head can give...

it will cost a little more porting the head than it would getting a tickford head, but the results would be much better....

Hallelujah!!! I was right... In a way lol :)
god I hate arguing with people who won't listen. Firend just wasted her time and money looking for a tickford block and head. Now she's gonna get it fixed up. And because it's "tickford" parts the rebuild will cost more just because of the name. Could've had a good motor by now :p
I learnt from my mistakes. Well thanks troyman :) problem solved I feel so much better knowing I'm not totally stupid

The only mistake you've both made is obviously going to the same rip off mechanic or parts shop.

If someone has told you/her the parts or a rebuild cost more because they are "Tickford" parts then you're both getting ripped hardcore.

Wow!! tickford gear is different to stock. Who'd-a Thunk it.

Just get a stock head and get the b**ch ported with oversize valves and a skim. will flow better than a tickford head anyday, grab a regrind from wade, better profiles than a ticky cam too.

Its pretty simple.

Side by side, stock for stock, a Tickford head/EDU combo will out perform a standard head if they both had the same cams or exhausts, etc. Typically by the same margins as when they were released from the factory.

Tickford heads already have larger valves and slightly better springs than stock. So you are infront there, as its things you dont have to buy.

If the head was the same $$$ as a stock head, or maybe $50 more, then you'd probably work out being a bit better off.

If you port or work either head the same, then of course they are going to perform the same.

Tru no doubt about that. But they aren't exactly making them stock spec either, thay want bigger cams and springs anyway. I just don't see why they want to pay the xtra dough for the tickford and make it as good as what someone else can do with a standard head. And then they'll complain oh why isn't it any better??
Oh well. Their loss I guess
