i have a bit of a problem with my 6*9's, here goes....

about 5 months ago i installed a pair of poineer 6" 3 ways in the front, and a pair of Alpine 6*9" SPS-690a's (not the best but was an upgrade). i am running these of a cruddy 40w sony head unit.

last week one of the 6*9's made a few clicking noises then all peakers went of, i turned system off. checked that wires hadnt crossed, no evidence. turned the system on and everything worked except one 6*9.

the one that was "not working", was working to a degree, the high range works well, but there is nooo bass at all. this anoyed me a bit.

but as of yesterday the other 6*9 is doing the same thing.
they sound like they are reversed polarity... but i havt changed the wiring since installing.

please help, advice would be great, if neone want to see them they are more than welcome to northern suberbs (melb).

p.s. sorry bout the long post.

thanks
Rushed

Sounds like the voice coil has burnt out, if there is a scratching sound on known bass notes only the resin has burnt on the voice coil causing it to jamb, both ways the speakers are stuffed. The root cause would be yet another trusty SONY product (what did they really mean by the EXPLODE logo!!!)

yeh
as joolz said, sounds like the voice coil has burnt out

most likely cause is not supplying enough power to the speaker.

unfortunately, sounds like you are being forced by the car audio gods to upgrade :)
