got a pioneer hu and a set of pritty much standard pioneer speakers (new) 4 x 50 6 inch and the speakers are in, just waiting for the unit. got it all very cheap must have fallen off a truck somewhere.
anyway. the hu is 4 x 50 but i was thinking of amping the speakers but i dont know if it'll even make a difference cause its the same thing. the speakers are on a crappy hu 4 x 50 now and i have to turn the volume up more to get sound then the stocks. and the max combined power is 160w for 2 so 320w for four. any help? if an amp wont make the difference or i'd need better speakers i wont bother. as much as i'd like to blow the clothes off women with my sick woofers, its not worth it. The old HU probably only supplies about 30W to each speaker. So if you plug in the new one it might be much easier to turn up the music. Since the speakers are only 50 watts I don't think its worth the money for an amp.

Is the new head unit one of Pioneer's brand new models? If it is and you want to try something a bit different to get a bit more of a bang for your buck, get yourself a cheap, yet reasonable 10 or 12" sub and you can bridge your rear channels to run it. It won't blow the clothes of the women but you might get a glimpse of their panties

A cheap 4x50 (or so) amp will make a huge difference, the hu says it gives 4x50 but in reality only supplies about 8watt rms to the speakers.

yeah its a 6850. motor face. and that. the blutooth is another $140 or something. but i'll be happy when i get it. so a 200 hu is 200w max? that means each channel is only supplying 30ish wrms. so what does every one think? go the 4c amp?

simplely answerd, single 50W speakers are s**t, the more you amplifie them the worse there guna sound.... update your speakers, you can get some half decent pioneer 200W 6" 2 ways for around $80 on special these days.... just get some new speakers and put them on your better h/u... they will sound fine

the speakers are 80 wmax x 2, 2 way. so 50wrms x 2 or 160wmax x 2. you say no, na says yes.

Well Pioneer head units usually deliver about 25-30W RMS so it should run the speakers fine for now.

hmmm, if i can find a cheap 4 x 50 amp i'd rather have full output on the speakers. besides, it'd make it fully sick

With the specs you gave. You should be right. No need for an amp. The loud feature on the Pioneer HUs do wonders
 so turn them on if you want it loud. I wouldn't spend money on a cheap amp to run speakers that can already run off the HU just fine. Unless you plan on getting better speakers later on...you can get a decent amp for the long term.

when it says '30w normal' that refurs to rms power? i thought 80w max was 50rms?

The Peak power ratings refer to the amount of power an amp produces, or a speaker can handle, for a brief musical burst (normally 2 seconds is a peak rated burstable period). This figure has almost no meaning in terms of how a speaker performs. Peak power ratings only give you the vaguest idea of how much headroom, or power handling, a speaker might have. In my opinion, you should ignore peak power ratings altogether - unless your talking subs and monoblock class-d amplifiers for pure spl competition. RMS power describes the amount of continuous power an amp produces, or a speaker can handle. The RMS power rating is a more accurate reflection of a component's performance in daily use hence why it is more significant.
The HU you have/are getting being 50w x 4 max.....msot head units advising hey supply this power figure thru the internal amp means each channel is really only supplying 22-23w RMS...so you'd be underpowering the speakers but not by much....youd have to weigh whether you really can warrant the extra $$$ for an external amplifier for the small gain you would achieve. Plus all the assosciated costs with cabling for an amp etc. If you have the cash the get an amp at least then you have scalability for upgrades in the future...in saying that tho if your gonna skimp and just get a cheap amp to get u by I wouldnt bother.
