What brands do they stock in JB hifi? It's been ages since I have been to one.

You will get decent quality amps around the $400 mark, a headunit you can pick up a pretty good one around $400, but if you want more equalizer bands, higher voltage rca's probably around $500+. I would stick with an mp3/cd player as when you go dvd/screen headunits they chew up a considerable amount of your money for the options/setting they offer, plus how often will you watch a dvd? Splits you will get pretty decent two ways for around the $300-400 mark.

I think they stock pioneer/alpine/audiobahn? If so I would stick towards these and start running away if they point you towards audioline/boss audio/rampage etc. I would check out other car audio places around you as most should be willing to cut a deal if your buying a bit of gear and will stock better brands and know what they are talking about.

edit: don't skimp on rca's/speaker wire either. I use stinger/audison rca's and have been very happy with them. Read the stickies at the top as well, will give you an better idea when comparing gear.

Get a monoblock for you subs and then a 4 channel for you speakers.

6 Inch splits in the front, no real requirement for 6x9's cause your subs will do all the bass work for you, maybe just get some 6inch for the rear doors, but ultimately do you care about the people in the back seat!?

I have kicker CVR subs in my car, and they pound. 2 x 12 inch and when tuned right can be heard a LONG way away, which i assume is what your going for  They were pretty pricey in a box when i got them, around the $650 mark i think. Got Edtn splits in the front, they are pretty solid.

Stay away from XPLod... s**t... the high end kicker stuff is pretty good, i think JB even stock that green brand? Avalanche or something? cant remember what they are called, but its not bad gear.

Awesome sound quality on that budget, and from Jb, that isn't going to happen, if you want awesome sound quality your budget may cover the front speakers and thats it....
