hi all. tried the search function but found nothing. trying to take out the factory head unit out of my mates AU xr6 ute. we tried shoving some skewers into the four holes in the side hoping that the head would just pop out - unfortunately it didnt. how would we go about removing it? its got an in dash 6 stacker too.

u need a set of tools forthe 4 holes although be careful cos if u push the pins in wrong ull be f**k

ok then. where can you get this tool? do you need to pull any of the dash covers off?

im not sure where to get them tbh.. its 2 pieces it goes in the top hole on 1 side and loops around and into the bottom of that side.. then theres an identical one for the other side. just going to search cos i know its in here

pretty sure you can buy them on ebay, however when i took the factory deck out of my au, i just used two lengths of coathanger bent to fit. push into the holes as per the pic above, and then pull towards you, the deck should slide out

yeh mate had another go with the coathangers and eventialy got it out

Ahhh, this is what i've been looking for. Can anyone post up a picture of the wire itself. Is it just straight at the ends or is it bent?

Also does anyone know if you can just tap the wires leading to the speakers when installing a new headunit? I want to keep all the wiring intact so that I can slot the factory fitted unit back in when I decide to sell.

Hi Chewie. we just cut 4 lengths of wire out of the coathanger and just played around with it. got it out in the end.
