or for something like this should i just get a car alarm?

just get an alarm, you'd then get added benefits.

most alarms also have a function of autolocking after 3 mins. most fitters do not enable it though.

3 minutes!
lol mine does it in 30 seconds.

So far I've only had trouble once, when getting a service, even after I told the guys DO NOT LEAVE THE KEYS IN THE CAR, they managed to get them locked in. So I got a fang around in a new BA Fairmont Ghia to drive home and pick up my spare key/remote.

What about rigging it up to the interior light.... ie. when interior light dims, have this actuate the door lock button on the dash... maybe possible with a relay...

only issue with the interior light circuit that i can see,, is what happens if you happen to lock the doors... when the light dims would it not unlock them again...?? im sure that problem could be resolved,, nice simple idea tho
