hey guys i'm relatively new to the audio scene and i've got an xh ute.
in conversation about a subwoofer for the beast, a friend mentioned something he'd seen on a ute where a product was fitted underneath the tub panels of the ute which when wired up basically turned the tub into a giant woofer, he said its old technology but thats all he could tell me.

i was wondering if any of you knowledgable guys and girls would be able to shed some more light on the "Bass Station" for me.

also, if this doesn exist, is an engineers certificate necessary for me to cut a hole in the back wall to port a woofer?
thanks guys!

I'm not entirely sure, but Alpine used to make a bit of kit called the Bass Engine, and he may be talking about that.

It was designed to be mounted to a fixed surface in the car (usually under the front seats from memory) and was designed to replace a subwoofer in certain applications.

It either didn't work too well, or never took off, 'cos it is no longer available (from Alpine anyway).

Try this instead http://www.alpine.com.au/products/produ ... odelID=265 should be good for a 'pick up truck'!!

you can get special boxes to mount subs in utes. The last place i saw one was in strathfield.

And to answer your questions firstly i have never heard of turning a ute tray into a sub (which would be highly illegal to use if driving)

And secondly it is illegal to cut a hole in the back wall to port a woofer unless you have it engineered.(and there's alot of extra bracing needed to make it pass)

looks like these things could be non-existent..

There's also shallow body subs that are half the width. My mate has two of them in his VY SS.
