I think I understand - have you made the normal handle rod get lifted up out of the handle slot by removing the last bend so it disconnects?

No wait... NOW I get it
You've effectively lengthened the rod, so the handle movement doesn't pull on the rod, but just moves in the slot of the handle - but I still can't picture how the vertical rod stops or blocks the slop.

The rod just slides in the handle hole when the rod is deadlocked, so the rod doesn't move, but the handle still does. The actuator sits inside the door below the handle rod, and it operates a rod which moves through a guide hole in the door skin, and sits in a slot in a bracket above the door handle rod. The handle rod has two blocks mounted to it, and the rod sits between them, effectively stopping it from moving.

damn dude this is a fantastic idea but a hell of a lot of work but if you get it working perfectly i might adapt it to my 4b
