Yes I have moved them a couple of times over the last few years and this is the best position I have found.
The system now images & stages the best it has ever done.
The next best position I have found (as data_mine mentioned) is in the factory location ... however you do need to scallop an opening where the grill slots are on the dash cowl to allow for proper sound dispersion.
Leaving the slots in the cowl as they are will certainly have a detrimental impact on the detail and sound stage
I'd love to have another listen to your car now that you've got it sorted with the new locations.
The other time I listened you had the tweeters in the first attempted A-pillar location. You said at the time that it was lacking in imaging compared to the factory location, but be stuffed if I could fault anything. Amazing. Songs that I thought I knew were transformed.

I've got the same speakers now, (I think they were on their way from the US when I listened to your car) and love the sound and detail they produce. I'm still lagging behind by not having TA, or any decent EQ, in place so the image is all over the place. It's still a great system to listen to and enjoy though.

TA is just around the corner too, I've finally found a head unit I'll be happy with without spending thousands. I had been looking for an older eclipse cd7200, and actually bought one, but the seller decided not to respond to any contact about organising pickup. Now, I've got my eye on a JVC that has TA, can play WAV from USB (a big plus for me) and has bluetooth and ipod control as well.

Do you mean cover the entire piece? I have thought of doing that, just like everything else, haven't got round to it.
Initiailly I just wanted to have mesh cover the new hole, but it seemed to hard to get it to look good with my skills.

You had a listen to it at NarreWarren Autobarn didn't you?

If you liked it last time ... you will like it even more now.
Since you heard it last I've upgraded every component ... except for the Oz splits of course ... and it's just taken it to another level.

Great to hear that you are loving your Oz's too ... you got the 6.5" version didn't you?

Once you get your deck with T/A capabilities you'll be kicking yourself that it took so long to get one :)

And used factory tweeters as they reflected very well.

The factory tweeters are surprisingly good for what they are.

Yeah it was at Narre Autobarn.
I've seen the upgrades you've made over at MEA. I love the tube amp!
Congrats on the equal first placing btw. Gotta be happy with that.

Nah, I thought about getting the 6.5" but I didn't want to do any custom work to the doort trims, so I got the 5.25".

Car audio being what it is the above needs to be tempered by saying that not every speaker will sound as good in the same location.
A tweeter that may sound a bit harsh and "in your face" might be more suited to the factory location than it would perhaps on the A-Pillar.

D'oh how quickly I forget, and to think I listened to your car at nationals... (it was dark though)

/thread.

I'll be doing the same in my NL when the stereo goes in.

He moved them, then put them back, then moved them again. Not sure if they're still there now.

I have mine the factory location and they sound great, audio is just above dash height and vocals centred above the steering wheel. (I really need to get a head unit with TA to tune it up properly) The only hurdle in using the factory location is removing the crappy factory plastic grille that interferes with the sound. I've been driving around with that dash piece off my car for a bit over a year now because I can't decide what to do about it.

By "harsh and in your face" do you mean like when it sort of does a high pitch screech on some notes to the point where it's almost ear piercing? because I get that on some songs and it's quite annoying. I assumed the solution was to turn the crossover to the -3db position?

In your case -3dB is probably the solution (or some EQ changes, where you could cut out the specific frequency that is harsh, as opposed to cutting everything the tweeter plays).

Sierra means, some tweeters are 'bright*' on axis (pointed right at you), and benefit from being heard after a reflection, others sound their best pointed right at you, and are best placed in a A-pillar or mirror sail location.

*bright can mean piercing, but is usually not so bad, but results in fatiguing listening. i.e. it's not too much at any one point/note, but is tiring to listen to for extended periods.

Nah not the whole thing. I'd say just the hole that you cut out. It would be hard to put something neat over the top...so covering the whole thing might actually be easier haha.

I see well I hope i'm making the right decision putting the polk db6501 tweeters in the factory location because it's a lot of work moving them and then to find out that they were better off in the sail panel (even though they're pointing down) would be very annoying.

Getting an install right, often includes a lot of trial and error. It comes with the territory I'm afraid.

I'm going to be moving my tweeters into the factory locations today, hopefully it's worth all the effort lol. Also moving the Xovers inside the cabin.

Just wondering since the tweeters will now have about a 2m length is it a good idea to run thicker wire than the standard tweeter wires?

Yes ... in general it is a good idea to run upgraded wiring.

I have my crossovers located in the boot and use 14# wiring up to my tweeters.

Alright well I'l change the tweeter wire then. only problem I can see is that the wire is soldered onto the end of the tweeter? What did you do about that?
