I've been playing some more with my carputer - I've installed a PCI TV Tuner. I used a Leadtek Winfast TV 2000 from here. It is a Digital TV tuner with PVR (Personal Video Recorder) so I can record anything that is on TV or whatever input device I have hooked up to it (reverse camera, security camera etc). It has all of the cool features like Picture In Picture and Time Shift as well. Now I can watch digital TV on the factory ICC (not when I am driving of course)

I have installed the TV Tuner and it is working, but I am only using a 'rabbit ear' antenna at the moment. The picture will improve greatly when I get the correct 'Diversity Antenna'. Much Googling to go!!

I'll be using a 'Diversity Antenna'. The basic idea of these antennas is that they have 4 actual antennas which run to an amplifier. The one with the highest signal is sent to the tuner.

This won't be any good for your application, it is only needed if you are moving all the time. If you can, just hook it up the the antenna on your house.

I'm taking a keen interest in this. I've seen your post on the other forum Pandaman, nice work.

Did you ever write anything up on mp3 dot com?

Still waiting for someone to do a documented build up on moving the lcd screen from an XT down to the tissue box and replace with an aftermarket screen. I've got a perfect 2 din navi/dvd player but don't want to put it in the tissue box.

Thanks

No, that forum is pretty strange. What I am doing to my car seems quite extroridanary to most people on this forum, but on MP3Car Forum I would be s**t-canned for wasting bandwidth.

Yeah, from what I've read on various forums, it is difficult but possible

Shows we're a liiitle bit behind the rest of the world, heh? Despite us wanting to be world sophisticates.

It would be cool to connect your carputer to the OBD, and have access to the diagnostic codes. Seen some of the software on Ebay but haven't heard of anyone really using it here in Australia.

I don't consider that Australia is behind the rest of the world. It's just that it's not as common here as in America. I actually think that it's a good thing that people on this and other Australian forums are friendlier and more helpful than the majority on MP3Car Forums.

Not only is it possible, I'm going to do it soon. I wanted to do all of the other stuff first - MP3, DVD, Sat-Nav, TV Tuner, Internet. Now that that is done, I have started looking into OBD.

Exciting

Internet is by wifi?

Pity you're in QLD as I'd love to see your setup.

Definitely interested in seeing how you go with the OBD.
