I'm requiring 12 V power from my cigarette lighter (which in my car doesn't have the lighter element, just an empty hole) but don't have the adapter that plugs into it. All I have is 2 wires. Which parts of the cigarette housing are the +/- cause I basically wan't to hook the wires up to an adapter that i'll construct which will contact both points inside the cig lighter housing.

Can't you just cut into the wires which power the ciggy lighter? That's what I did with my neons (They're inside and AREN'T rice) and stuck in a toggle switch so I can turn them on or off.

The outside is negative. The postive part is the contact in the centre.

yeh i did the same for my interoir neons. I throught the cig lighting in my car parts box. Hot glued an round button switch where the sig later is ment to. Wired my computer neon inventors to it. And BAMMMM! Let there be light

Just remember that the wiring to a lighter socket is only fairly small so don't try drawing too much current through it......
