Hello
I recently purchased 2 12inch woofers, and the recommended box size is 138L each woofer, ported.
I was wondering, in theory, what volume would i be looking at sealed??

Cheers
David

I think the average size for internal volume of a 12" is around 1.2-1.5 cubic feet. Not sure what that is in litres though. I thought my phone had a convertor, but it doesn't

1.5 cubic feet is about 42.5L, Which is about what i thought.
Cheers
David.

some subs sound heaps better ported, while other sound better enclosed.

I have a Pioneer 306C and it loves to be in a ported box

Depends what you want from the sub.

For loud doof doof, a ported box tuned for you're favorite freqeuncy is the go.

For SQ, a sealed box is most commonly used, however, a ported box tuned really low (ends up being really large) can be great - it's what I'm currently running.

Thanks, I must be doing something right. I compete and judge in SQ comps, and in 2008 alone won

- ACT champion Pro class
- NSW champion Pro class
- South Coast Nats (Moruya) Best SQ Overall (across all classes)

Never won anything at a summernats SQ comp, but then again I don't have enough screens and fibreglass to win.

Summer Nats SQ is a waste of time
When I took the HQ up Summer nats 10. Strathfield judged me best car / best audible car / and I won My db class
Come trophy time the Organisers Gave my trophy to another Judges Car ??????????????????????
Now its just an install comp most of the cars sound like crap
Took up my colt better than the HQ 2 years ago and a judge won again GO FIGURE
dont stress over SummerNats its not worth it to many cheats
DB Drags is the only comp they cant cheat in as its controlled world wide thats why
Im A season Competitor

Great looking setup in the colt there Parrot and that 2-pac(i take it) orange looks smick...

138L thats for both 12"s I hope and ported....what woofer is this

Ported if you can cater for the larger enclosure is the way to go and ignore the sterotypes that ported is simply for the SPL or doof doof guys....ported is proven to be more efficient.

Depending on the woofer 1.5+ cubic feedt will be the way to go however again depending on the driver then 2.0cuft-2.5 may prove to have better results.

Port diameter and length again is come down to how the driver performs and what the manufacturer has recommended for port configuration/box tuning
