Hi guys,
Just recently the odometer on my XR6 stopped reading the disctance travelled. First instinct was that some mechanical part in counter in the cluster may have broken. I took the entire cluster apart and it all seem in order. The speedometer, tachometer, oil, fuel, temperature and voltage gauges all work. Can anyone tell me whether they had a similar problem and what could it be. Thanks. |

Replace the odometer cog, should cost about $18-$25, depends where you get it from!!.

Just one more question, where exactly is it located? Is it inside the speedo? If it is, I am having trouble dismantling the speedo dial needle to take the entire thing apart. Can you suggest any way to take the needle off.

use a fork to gently pull the needle off, look at and note the tip of the needle too to get it back on in the same spot.
the gear goes inside the gearbox thats run off the small motor screwed to the side of the speedo, bad description but once out and apart u will understand better |

Thanks guys. That was piece of cake. One tooth on the cog is broken. Now all I need to do is find the replacement.

Keep an eye on ebay under XR6/8, they come up every now and then.

I've already seen one offer on ebay. I'll probaibly bid on that.
A friend of mine seems to have the same issue, so I'll probably order 2. Thanks for the tip. |
