Hi, I really need to know which wire does whatso i can install a new stereo no one seems to know anywhere else so this is my last hope.

I have sourced the left and right speakers but now need to find out where the power and thing of the like are.

They come out of the back of the old stereo in two blocks. One block has four wires that are the speakers and the other block has, i think, four or five other wires. Im pretty sure the fatest wire is the main power but can't be 100% sure.

Can any one help?

I'll be able to tell you tomorrow (Sunday) if you can wait until then.

Otherwise, call your local Ford Dealer and ask for the servicing department or a mechanic (provided the dealer you call has a service shop) and simply tell the mechanic you purchased your Ford Fiesta from there and are installing a new stereo. Describe the wires to him, and he should be able to shoot you the answers off the back of his hand.

This might actually help... hopefully it does...

There should be a 4 wire plug, and if this is what you are talking about when you say it's the 4 speakers, it's not. The 4 wire plug sounds like the 12v live ignition lead.

The others:

Constant, Switched, Ground Wire, Aerial lead and Illumination Wire.

Illumination wire I have no idea what colour it would be, but this just dims the light on the stereo when you put your lights/parkers on. (it changes from white to black on the Falcon series ICC when lights are turned on).

Aerial lead is self explanatory, should be a black wire with a metal pin/plug on the end.

Ground wire again self explanatory, should be screwed into the unit. Follow it to where it's attached and (preferrably) keep the same place on the panel/metal body to attach the new grounding wire.

There should be a Red and Yellow. Both of these need to be connected, as they are your switched (red) and constant (yellow). Connect these two together (if neccessary) to get them both powered at the same time. Both must be wired.

I can't think of anything else, and don't take this as an installation manual but a bit of a guide.

Thank you for replying and i think it has helped a little. Excuse me for being a bit dence, but it looks like you are explaining the stereo's wires. If you are i need the info on the wires coming out of the car to the stereo. I have found the wires on the new stereo and now need to connect that to the car.

The ones i have found from the car are: Left and right front speaker (which were on one plug and easy to find), The aerial (again easy) and now im left with one more plug with about 4 or 5 wires in it which consists of one thick wire and 3or4 other wires that are the same thickness as the speaker wires.

I am sorry if im being a little slow and i appreciate your help.

Yeah sorry, my bad, i was explaining the wires you should have for the stereo. These should be wires that connect (obviously) to your car, but I know what two plugs you are talking about now.

I have made a few calls for you and no luck, and the two plugs are quite different to the ones in Falcons for example, as everything is basically pin plugs, but I won't give you any more info until I know for sure what plugs you are talking about, so I can give you an exact answer.

When I said that, I was just assuming your car isn't a new Ford Fiesta, and you are based in the UK? Thing is we don't really have many of them except for the newest models, and a lot of people are guessing an answer to your question, but like I said, I'll find out what you need to know, and post it here as soon as I do.

Ok the following are leads/wires as specified for a 95, 96 or 97 Ford Fiesta:

Power Connections:

Memory (+12v Constant): Green Yellow
Ignition (+12v Switched): Yellow/Black
Ground (-): Black or Fat Red
Illumination :Orange*
Dimmer: Orange/White*

Speakers from the car:

Right Front (+): White/Green
Right Front (-): Green/Orange
Left Front (+): Orange/Green
Left Front (-): Light Blue
Right Rear (+): Pink/Blue
Right Rear (-): Green/orange
Left Rear (+): Pink/green
Left Rear (-): Pink/Blue

* The dimmer may not exist depending on the series of the car. If your stock stereo dimmed its back-light when you turned your parkers/headlights on, then obviously Ford included this wire.

After several calls and while I was out today, I dropped in to Ford and 2 other car stereo places to ask, and all three outlets had the same book on your Fiesta, providing only what I have listed above...

Ford and the better of the two car audio places I went to recommended that you simply buy a Ford ISO cable kit, as they take just minutes to install and they allow you to replace the older Ford stock systems with any CD/DVD head unit you want.

So I came home and looked on the internet and found a website that stocks and sells ISO kits for all cars, including... THE ONE FOR YOURS.

8.95Euro - they do delivery, I think.

Sorry if this doesn't help as much as you would have liked, but my dead end answers for you have me recommending that you get the ISO, jam it all together and slip your new unit straight in.

yeah those short periods of time that i have where im not doing something for me i try to help someone else with what they wanna do or get done

No worries mate - I joined this site not too long ago, and my car loves me for it - and still, plenty of ideas in the near future thanks to the fellas (and ladies on here)... had i not have had fordmods here to help my car would be peeerrrfectly suited to a lady of 60 years... and if anyone has a potential buyer let me know because I want to downgrade to an E series... and SPEND MORE MONEY on it.
