the first question is do you want a lil portable unit or an inbuilt one that would go to on the screen in a ba-bf with prem sound.

I have a navman and its really easy to use, never had a problem with it. Dad has a tomtom and same deal never had a problem with it, its also easy to use. On the tomtom you can download extra voices if you want to listen to ozzy osborne swearing and telling you where to go.

If you just want something basic and don't need all the jazzy stuff then get the one from Hyenas group buy. Thats what im doing and it looks to be awesome for the $220 price. It is advertised for about $350 on ebay I believe.

I have the TomTom One XL and have had no problems with it, it has free updates and very simple to use. Be careful with some of the cheaper ones as updates may have a fee involved.

I did see that funnily enough. I was just checking to see if all tomotom models are like this and whether or not they still offer free updates, as this post was back in 2007.

Do any other sat navs come with free updates?

I have a base model Garmin and it's never let me down. But tomtom's seem to be the standard for whatever reason. Custom voices probably lol.
