you can connect to the speaker wire any where along it, closer to the speaker would be desirable. say if you have 8 wires, they will be in 4 pairs (to 4 speakers in theroy) of the same colour but one will have a stripe or a dash in a different colour, that one is the negitive. same as your cars speaker wire

if they are labled front and rear (2each) then hook up one front and one rear to one rear speaker in your car and the other front and rear to the other speaker,

this way you will get the bass from both sides. doing this will make the signal true to all speakers, so if you get a bass note in only one speaker you will still get it threw your sub/speakers

i was of the idea they go between the head unit and amp. thus turning speaker wires into rca's which go to the amp inputs. the speaker wires are then simply wired to the screw terminals for speaker out put?

instead of using rcas from the back of the deck you go into the speaker wire and the box converts the signal

now im confused. your diagram shows the convertor between the speakers and amp. my amps have wire out puts to connect the speakers to. it has rca inputs though, so if you put them between the icc and amp, you can feed in the speaker wires from the rear of the icc, and have rca's come out the other side to go to the amp. is that correct?
