Now i know i was doing the wrong thing but....
My amp + lead dropped onto the casing of my amp. Keep in mind that the case is pretty much all earth. The inside of the amp glowed very bright and smoked for a while. I opened it up last night, found 1 burnt out wire, which looked like an earthing wire to the board. I replaced the wire, do you think it's worth giving a try in the car again - see if it lives?? i can't do any more damage - i won't hook the sub up unless i get power and no smoke

give it a go and see what happens are you sure it didn't blow any thing else?

ive had both my amps earth out and smoke poured out of them. not a good sight or smell.
but that was about 1 year ago and they are still running strong

do u have an in line fuse in the power cable ide check that ant the fuses on the side of the amp. other than that worst it can do is let out a little more smoke so give it a shot

should be right, as long as the earth strap (from board to casing) didn't break connection.
even if it did It most likey will be ok, But there is a small chance that the +ve May feed itself the wrong way through the amps power transistors via the heatsink IE: case.... and reverse through the board.. Just to get to the nice fat negative terminal. I don't see this having a death affect as most of these transistors are -ve to the neg rail... bah I hope this makes sence

this is why you should disconnect it at the battery before you work on it

i learnt that when i burnt my fuse at the battery...............not much damage but i know what current can do to ur body. phong =P~

itll b fine, all u did was create a short circut thru that little cable which fried it, so replace, re connect....safely and test it, it should be fine tho

Im surprised it had long enough to f**k the amp
it should have blown the fuse up near the battery first..

get yourself a batter charger and hook it up to that. run a wire from the + to the switched to turn it on - that way the worst u can do is blow the battery charger or throw the safety switch in the house. better than ur car battery

Guess what it did! that exact earth strap! Well anyway, i got bothered and hooked it up last night as the replacement amp i bought just sounded crap. Plugged in, flicked the switch and away it went! Now i've got 2 amps to play with
