It's actually not too bad. You're mainly gonna be in 5th cruising on the highway or parked (chuck in in reverse) when it's being watched and with my shortened shifter it's not really in the way.

I've been getting that alot today

Jose, Dima et. al, thanks for the advice on the voltage reg bits, I'll give it a go :)

From what I remember Brad had the issue of smacking his knuckles into the screen when changing gears.. So he mounted it where the vents are on top(ofcourse removing the vents).

Looking good so far but.. Pretty much what Im gonna be doing, so the megasquirt dashes can be always viewed.. virtual guages I suppose you can call it.

Keep up the good work.
Cheers

I drove to work with it in place for a few days and didn't ever whack my knuckles. Don't forget this is flush mounted with the rest of the radio surround, so unless you routinely belt the ash tray when changing gears there's little chance of collecting it

I finally got around to doing some more work on this today and added more nifty features :)

I haven't bolted it firmly in place yet because I have to run some more wires for a new cig lighter power socket seeing as the old one is now buried behind the LCD. So that's why there's gaps around the headunit, it has to sit 5mm or so higher.

Anyways, latest mods are a bumper cam mounted in the front air dam.

I used a little CCD cam Ive had for a while, it was originally a spy camera used with a transmitter but I;ve hard wired it to the screen so batteries and signal transmission aren't an issue.

I needed something somewhat waterproof to keep it in and I needed some sort of front lens so it didn't cop bugs and rocks and s**t during general driving.

After a rat around at home I came up with this, a specimen jar from work. haha

Image

For the front lens I cut out the centre of cap and mounted some precision clear optics, a piece of CD case. haha

Image[

It's actually suprisingly good considering the fairly low res of the camera anyway and having a lens/filter that I can screw off like a normal camera is pretty cool if I do say so myself :P

And this is the incar view. It's pretty elite and looks awesome when driving over line markings etc on the road because its so low you get this cool perspective thing as you drive over painted arrows and crossings etc. Nightrider stylez yo :P

Image
(I don't know what that herringbone pattern is through it, it must be just the flash because you don't normally see that and it doesn't show up in the recorded video)

Half the footage from the bathurst video (in the bathurst cruise thread funnily enough :P ) is from this camera.

I haven't wired up the power supply for the hard drive media player yet but the DVD player works and there's a switch to flick between the DVD player and camera. So far though I've only tested the DVD once because I've been more entertained by watching the low angle view of the road ahead

Lookin good so far. This was an Idea that I was gonna give a shot but then I realised how much work was involved and just bought a roof mount instead!! But I am looking at doing a Double Din Touch screen when I do my Fairlane Interior Swap.

well done jay...another great idea as usual =D...i like that view...its like when your on a plane and watch the plane take off its awesome hahaha...

and those lines on ur LCD i think is ur refresh rate...happens to all screens especially old CRT monitors and some LCD screens with slow refresh rate. isn't a problem

Why didn't u stick one on the back as well? can act as reverse camera as well as no black spots... =D
