Hey guys i've just joined up and just got myself my first car
its an el fairmont and i have bought a jvc dvd headunit off ebay and i'm wondering about how i'm going to fit the headunit and a motorized 7 inch screen into the dash!

Will they both fit in easily? and whats the best approach?
I'm very new to everything and only 17 so a lot of help would be appreciated!!

Cheers

Dude it depends on where you want to put the monitor... if you put it in the top slot, you can still see info on the head unit, but the monitor might cover the dash vents, but if you put it in the bottom it will cover the head unit and may not clear the shifter when opening (but im not sure on that)... If you need a hand at all im in Castlemaine...

ok so the headunit will fit into the gap below the original headunit easily??
it looks smaller, i havent got the car yet, its getting driven down next saturday by my uncle from canberra so yeah...
i wouldnt mind if the screen covers the vents, as long as it looks neat i spose!

you could source the premeium facia and brackets, modify them and use that setup. There a 2 din setup.

That or on the El Preditior that was getting round ages ago it had an aftermarket system fitted by some company, cant remember) they removed the dish under the standard 1 din spot and put a unit there. only problem was it wont be recessed like the top one but its a cheaper way out than the 2 din facia and brackets (wreckers want an arm and a leg for them)

New thought..
done a bit of thinking..
probably not going to go for the screen in the dash just yet,
instead mayb headrest monitors or a roof mounted.
does anyone have any pics of either in their car or someones they have seen?
thanks

i have an 8 inch roof mount screen on my el. Personally I preffer roof mount screens for the rear as you can get up to a 15 inch screen and when its not in use its pretty much hidden unless someone looks up. As for the front I have a 7 inch headrest screen mounted into the stereo facia

You've got two choices.
Either mount the screen above, but sticking out so that you can still access teh headunit below (the screen has to stick out as you will notice on the EF/EL dash above there is that protruding out curve that will stop your screen form being angeled enough for you to see it if you don't stick it out far enough).
Or you can mount the headunit above and screen below, meaning it won't have to stick out - but you can't access the headunit easily when the screen it out.

Alternative again is to get rid of your headunit and screen and buy one that has both in it. e.g. Pioneer AVH-P5750DVD - it's what i've got now.

I guess you've probably also only got a single DIN radio surround, in order to mount to DIN items in there you will have to get a hacksaw and file and modify it - easily done by removing that tray thing.

I've also got the headrest montiros, sunvisor and roof mount.

Depends how big it is. I've only got a Blaupunkt 8", and can still see most of the rear picture. But I'd imagine a 15" would be a different story.
