What does everyone think of Kenwood products thinking of buying a set up are they good quality.

What are you planning on getting from Kenwood. I've found that the more expensive head units are great. My last KRC-788 was brilliant. 6 years and still going strong. Easy to use, clear powerful sound, great looking unit. Now I own a Kenwood DX-8047 2 DIN screen Dolby DD surround etc. Best fun I've had with a car HI/FI system I've ever had. It's f**k' great is all I can say.
Amps I'm not sure about, speakers I don't think I'd ever buy again. But yeah, some good stuff to be had. 25th Anniversary stuff is great too.
The model below mine, also a Kenwood 2-DIN model comes standard in the current Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. It can't be all bad

I have found over the years that Kenwood is best described as value for money, not the best but certainly far from the worst.
Clarion used to be excellent when they made their own gear but now they are like most of the cheaper gear that is made but some chinese company for them and quality has suffered severely.
If you are after quality go for Alpine......

My 2 yr old Clarion cd/mp3 player is utter garbage but my 1989 model Alpine amps still sound sweet!!!!!!

I don't want to put anyones choices down, but I've been told to stay away from the current range of Clarion too. Albert car stereo won't carry their range any longer due to too many warranty returns. He told me the same was true for Kenwood's entry level models. But the more expensive range from Kenwood were very good. It's a shame because it's the many failures in the cheaper stuff that gives the whole brand a bad name.

You get wat you pay for hey..if you spend $150 on the absolute cheapest clarion deck..and half a mill ppl buy them then theres gonna be a few warranty returns, Some of the mid range pionner gear is nice.

Unfortunately my Clarion was near on $400 and it is still rubbish, I am very dissapointed.
The worst part is in my wifes car and she can't even hear the problem so one can only imagine how many others have faulty decks and have done nothing about it.
I think I will will stick with my 1991 model Alpine head unit......

I bought 2 Kenwood KDC-MP6029 about a year ago, one for myself and the old man,
It has every feature i needed:
4v/o
front/rear and sub RCA's (pairs)
and seperate volumes for each.

works well... it was midrange price (360ish)

but other than that... its s**t

Tuner is far from perfect, reads cdr's slow, constantly doesn't like ambient temp (mp3's pause and jump when she's warm)
But hell... when Im in the car for 1hr a day (work and back) i find myself not listening to music anyways. ...
As for user friendly and good performance at a cheap price... I'd go JVC for the under 300 range... Pioneers just don't do it for me as appearance!

ohh yeh... back to the point... kenwood imo is crap

I had a fairly big Kenwood setup in my XR8 when I had it and found that if you use the top of the line stuff it is really good, I still have the amps (PS series), the DSP (only 2 in Australia) and the KDC-8088 mask headunit. The cheaper range of products are just that, a cheap range.

In my opinion Pioneer products are about on par with Kenwood, they have their cheap stuff and their high end stuff.
