Gday im looking for a good free air 8" subwoofer to go into my parcel shelf. I'm looking at the JL Audio 8W3v3 sub, which has has awesome reviews but im not sure how it will sound with out a box. I would think it would sound pretty good because the boot makes up for the box i guess.

anyone got a after market sub for there parcel shelf?

Cheers

I'm actually interested in the responses from this too.

Don't want a sub box taking up my boot space but would like something better than the putrid gear in there from factory.

yea same, i'm thinking a 8" will sound pretty good because the bass wont drown out all the other frequencys.

I think those all in one fusion units fit on the upper shelf of your boot (like snug against the back seat) so you still have a big boot. Thought Im interested in some recommendations aswell, I like the factory look.

Not sure if the new Pioneer shallow subs can be mounted as free-air and have good bass, but they do come in 8" and seem fairly decent for small spaces.

You can always get an 8" sub and make a small box underneath the parcel shelf.

i've got a kicker free air 8".
it sounds better then the stock one, but still s**t compared to a boxed 12".
if the sub isn't designed to be free air, it will sound worse then the stock one.

In an EL it will sound s**t, unless you sound deaden the whole shelf, seal the boot etc. I haven't heard one in an E-Series that sounds good yet.

Get the JL audio 8". Mount it on the shelf and then build a box underneath it...run a rectangular/circular box from the parcel shelf to the floor. Should hold itself into place if it is jammed in nicely :). For a good seal, glue some foam/rubber on the top/bottom and jam it in. Should work fine and the box shouldn't be too big for an 8".

Make a sub box to fit in the corner of the boot, just in front of the tail lights. Wont take up much boot space and will sound better in every way over an 8 inch free air sub.

il get the JL audio one for the parcel shelf and see how it sounds, if it does sound bad il just get a box made up for it. The parcel shelf does have two vents next to the speakers on the EL maybe that might help.

Im going to get a Polk Audio 8" Infinite Baffle sub from performance car audio. Apparently you don't need to push these sort of subs hard at all because they arnt boxed. Just wondering if people could post there setup with the 8' sub in the parcel shelf.
