Hmmm.

Where do you buy all your audio equipment really cheap?

I always thought ebay was cheapest.

car audio places are suprising when it comes to the amount they can move on prices....
and do answer your question about an amp, no you wont need one and your money would better be spent on headunit and speakers.
$250 headunit
$250 splits for front
$100 for coaxials for rear
speakers are alright to buy off ebay, but i would avoid getting headunit off there ($250 will get a a good one new, any more than this and your probably paying for features that you dont necessarily need). Those 6.5in type r splits are good speakers.

Yeah that's how I'm hoping to set it up.

How about this for a head unit?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-Alpine-CDE-9 ... dZViewItem

Are alpines at that price better than pioneer or is it the other way round? I'm mainly after sound quality and EQ control.

I'm also thinking of just moving my front speakers to the back for now.

With the stock speakers are the front exactly the same as the back?

Also I can't find any 6 inch speakers only 6.5, are those the size I want or do I have to find some 6 inch ones? I don't wanna do any modding to the existing speaker sockets

If you don't want any advise, and just a sale, try JB Hi Fi and negotiate-negotiate-negotiate.

They can bargain right down.

Also very important.

Do 6 1/2 inch speakers fit straight into an ED?

I'm thinking of buying those 6 1/2 inch alpine splits I linked to earlier.

Are the front and rear speakers identical??? Or are front a differentsize and sound?

Since those alpine ones have tweeters then I guess they can be front only.

Also can I remove the tweeters since I can't think of anywhere to mount then in the front?

Its very easy to mount the tweeters on the plastic trims... the driver side above the power mirror switch.

Hmmm thanks they don't look to hard to mount

How about my other questions?

Is that alpine head any good?

I also thought the stock speakers were 6 inch but I can only find 6 1/2
inch split speakers.

Also what does split mean?

I assume it means the tweeter is split from the woofer and/or the frequencys are split by a crossover.
I thought all 6.5" speakers fit directly into factory 6" holes but apparently some have found that certain models of speaker dont. My Soundstream and previous Pioneer splits fit straight ito my EB.... Ive never owned Alpine speakers.

I cant speak for that particular model headunit but its my opinion that Alpine make some damn good headunits. I myself still use an older Alpine 7893R MP3 headunit which is far superior to the Clarion unit it replaced.

I cant comment as the only Alpine speakers I have heard on a demo board were the Type-R's and they didnt suit my type of music.

Try these Pioneer ones http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Brand-New-Pioneer-220-watt-2-way-Speakers-TS-C1625_W0QQitemZ200120993287QQihZ010QQcategoryZ130673QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Thats what I used to run in the front and are now in the rear... they sound awesome. Plus theyre brand new not used like the ones you linked to.

when i built my system i ended up getting a compettion series alpine head-deck and pioneer speakers for the rear with boss audio splits up front and it sounded pretty good

head deck : RRP $1000 paid $400 (off ebay)
speakers: Pioneer 6" $80 brand new
Boss Audio Splits $120 brand new

I know a lot of people critisize boss audio but after owning them and using them for 2.5 years they were value for money. As for head-decks all major brands are pretty much the same but pioneer and alpine have better customisation

SQ go for Alpine headunits over Pioneer.
Functionality, ease of use go for Pioneer over Alpine.
