Hey guys,

I need an opinion on what type of Headunit would suit my AUII best.
As to date i have;

--- 5 by 7 kickers all round (i think these are 50W?)
--- A Cadence FXA2060 - Cadence 2 Ch. 200 Watt Amplifier
--- An Alpine Type R Sub (an older moldel, got it for 20$ :) so im not too sure about its specs...)

-I plan to use the amp to run the sub and run the speakers off the headunit.

-The headunit needs usb capabilities and ipod (just incase i decide to upgrade tp an ipod)

-I have approximately 300$ budget for the headunit but don't mind spending less.

-It doesn't have to be the 'best' headunit there is, so long as it is quality and good value

Thanks in advance

David

I would take a loke a look at the Clarion units steer clear of the eclipses, although the eclipse is a good unit I don't find it very user friendly.

The DXZ786USB Clarion model (http://www.clarion.com/au/en/products/2 ... 96074.html) is looking like on of my better options so far, on the Clarion website it says it retails at 499$ but you can usually get them a lot cheaper than the regular retail price.

Does anyone own, or have some experience with this model?

Is Pioneer better than Clarion?
Has anyone used this Pioneer model?

Forget the Clarion and the Pioneer that you have found. If you want value for money with features and relability go with JVC. have had mine now for over 6 years with no hassles, you can see it in my gallery. i found a model for you which will do all you want, USB, Ipod, AUX input, seperate line outs for front rear/sub for just over your price range. >>> http://www.jvc-australia.com/JVC/client ... prodID=362

yer they can be a handfull to use specialy the older models but wonce you get use to them they are really good but $300 wont buy you a very featuer packed unit you need to spend over $700 to get the upper spec model. if you like something with sound quality and lots of fine adjustments an eclipse is for you but if you want something user friendly as Tasmaniak said they can be a handfull to use.
saying that i have an ECLIPSE unit in my car and also had one in the previous car and there is no other unit i would buy.

pesonaly take a CD that u regualy listen to and enjoy and take it to a shop and play it on a few different units play aroud and see what you like and are comfortable with

For USB and Ipod connectivity Clarion and Pioneer are you best choices, they are both great in terms of price reliability and features. Ive got a Pioneer DEH-P3650 and it is a great unit only doesnt have USB but was damn cheap for a brand new unit, and it is packed full of features!

Jump on http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/for ... p?&CODE=00
and ask them there, the guys will be able to give you the best units for your price range and features required.

Has anyone used this Pioneer model?

I have this exact deck in my XR8. I recommend. Very easy to use and great sound quality.

if your considering this why not get the 2din version...
looks alot more user friendly...
http://www.clarion.com/au/en/products/2008/audio/source_units/2din/DUZ386MP/au-en-product-pf_1172394643597.html
i got my alpine h/u because it has a dot matrix screen... (not just 2 lines of text) but controlling your ipod from the headunit is seriously over rated so ill be going one of these next...

To put it in perspective these are all the units I'm looking at at the moment.

I'm leaning towards the Alpine Unit and the Pioneer, but it's all going to depend on their price at the stores I go to.

If you guys can think of any other Headunits I should keep me eye out for when I go down to the shops I'd like to know.
