Heya crew, im thinking of adding to the system some time early this yr by installing a flat screen LCD tv on the bootlid of the falcon, and having a DVD player hidden under the curren false flooring....

i plan on putting some MDF sheeting up on the boot lid covering most of the section, and then building it around the actual Screen, running wires behind the boarding

i have a few Questions to get my mind in gear

now obviously, i ran some decent size cable down to the boot when i put the new system in, about 35mm stranded, i ran the negative and active into a seperate terminal block, my plan is to come off those blocks with a new power feed for a DC/AC power supply for the tv and DVD player, the current system is protected by a 175amp enclosed link fuse....

my main question is regarding transferring sound from the dvd to the Amps, its no biggy if i cant use my system to listen to tv, because most likely its going to come with its own inbuilt speakers anyway, but if i wanted to, could it be done? id somehow have to get the signal from the TV/dvd to the amps, but they have differnt plugs etc etc

and before anyone says it, no im not replacing my current in dash CD player with a CD/DVD player becuase the unit is worth close to $1000

Another question is Where to look for the screen/dvd, i had a quik look on ebay, but would i be better off going with an actual TV, or just a screen?

ill throw up some basic pictures with plans of what i wish to do

Just a thought ,you have probably already covered this but I would get some stronger gas strutts in the boot because of the extra weight, and to stop it slaming and stuffing your screen

can't wait too see it finished! :D

Hey mate, if there is no chance of making a connection from your new dvd player to your existing set up, then you could always use an FM transmitter. If you buy a quality one, then the sound quality is actually quite good.

Just a thought!

Yeah i thought about the Gas struts, and i think im seriously going to struggle to find stronger ones, do they even make them? i know pyroay would of had to do something to his to accomidate for all that extra weight....

Damo, im undecided weather im selling it or not, most likely will, but this mod wont cost over $700 or so, so its pretty much nothing, and im finding that i use my system a hell of alot when at mates having bbqs drinks etc etc, we can just back it up, open the boot and let the tunes fire, and it would be awesome being able to watch tv in whereva i am

Find a car with a heavy bonnet and get the struts of that.. or get some stationwagon struts they would be able to hold more weight ie holding the tailgate up with that glass and metal and interior bits

should get a cheapy ps2 or something off ebay and chuck it in

Dvd player should have rca's out for the audio (to hook up to a stereo/ surround sound) , so it would be a piece of piss to use a set of y adaptors (from Jaycar or similar) into your existing amps. Other than that, does your head unit have an aux in??? Being that its a fairly up market unit (I asume from the price) I would think that it might. That way you run another set of rca back to the head unit from the dvd player, and could intergate the whole system.

as he said, or to run in through your entire system (front/rear/subs) run an extended 2pair RCA down to your headunit and into an AUX input for left/right sound.

Or to get real funky run a 3pair RCA down to the front, obviously 2 for sound L/R, and run a Y splitter on the yellow vid out terminal of your DVD player.

Out of the Y splitter, run one RCA to your new LCD screen feeding it the video signal, and the other into the remaining RCA going down the front, and run that into your exisiting H/U screen, so you can have the DVD playing on your head unit screen, and the LCD screen. Thats assuming your head unit, which if its worth 1k should have, an AUX sound input and AUX video input.

hahaha
all this on an ea

Southy - you can get a place to rebuild your gas struts easy, wont be a problem really.

You may need to run an inverter to run the tv. you can get 12v & 240v lcd tv's but be weary they charge almost double the price for teh luxury of not running an inverter!

The headunit does have AUX in so i should be fine in that department, im understanding now what your saying...

ash, i can run the system up fairly high for about 30 mins, after that it starts cutting out and that battery is pretty much dead, thats with the car turned off, with it running, i can run the system for as long as i want, never had a problem with loss of power, the only time i do, is sometimes when i have it turned up REALLY loud and i give the car a good boot (red line) it starts to cut out, but once the foot is off the gas its fine
