The History: EA with pioneer 50x4 headunit, 2x pioneer 6in, 2x pioneer 6x9s, 2 channel 350.4watt kicker amp and a boxed 12in orion woofer(400watt)
Ok the head,6in and 6x9s have been installed and worked perfectly for 4yrs, approx 4months ago I had the local JB HI FI install the amp and woofer, besides them not tuning or bridgeing the amp to solely run the woofer as i asked i was happy with the install as it was cheap and s**t I finally had base!

But on monday last week i noticed the woofer wasnt working so I called my bro( who knows more bout stezzas than i do) and we checked everything! head unit, wiring(all of it) amp (but not sure how to tell if it works) all fuses, and woofer to no avail!!! although the rca's werent plugged into the headunit, plugged then back in and still no difference!!!

Oh and to top it all off the next morn my radio reception was really f**k bad(what the f**k???) So can anybody please help me out? as i dont know wats up!

Hopefully ive provided enough info to help solve the prob, thanks boys!

Hi There

1. You should probably take it back to JB if it was only done
a few months ago but if you want to do a couple of quick checks then.....

2. Do you have a multimeter to measure voltage.
If so put probes on Power ( + ) and Negative ( - ) of the Amp.
You should have around battery voltage.
If okay switch ignition to Acc so head unit comes on.
Put probes on Rem and Negative ( - ) of the amp.
You should have around battery voltage.

3. Post back results.

4. Pioneer have a bit of a reputation for blowing RCA earth tracks
( fuses ) internally. But don't worry about that just yet.

5. Do not plug and unplug RCAs while the head unit and / or Amp is on.

Good Luck

Will check voltage in the next couple hours, the fuses plugged externally to the amp(yellow, not sure on resistance) werent blown so am unaware if the amp is fitted with"internal fuses"

Also tested a working set of RCA leads with the same result.

Will post results soon! Thanks

Hi There

When I talked about RCA earth tracks and internal fuses, I was referring to the Pioneer Head Unit not the AMP.
They are very small surface mount devices on the circuit board. But as I said, don't worry about that just yet.

Hear from you soon

hi mate, i am a service tec at pioneer, what model headunit do you have, also yes gutza is right we do blow the internal fuses but they are there to protect your amp (thanks japan) but really you dont need them, if you have a multimeter then with the unit off, set it to ohms, and put one probe on the rca shield, and one on the units case, if it measures under 3 ohms its good if it measures more then 200k its really bad, and if it says ol or 1 etc (depending on multimeter) then your fuse is blown and its time to call 1800 988 268 and arrange for repairs :P if your technically minded i can tell you how to do it but it will void your warranty

When he accesorys are off the voltage is 12.45v
and the same when its on!
However i did notice that the "power" light on the amp is not lit! at any stage. thanks

Cooki im not sure what unit it is but its actually a 45x4watt and its about 4yrs old, ill get the serial soon!
I think my warranty is up anyway! and electronically im a muppet!

If i could find out definately that its the fuse or whatever it is I would feel safer getting it done professionally!

Thanks

Hi

You said........

"When he accesorys are off the voltage is 12.45v
and the same when its on!"

What two terminals on the AMP are you touching ??
If you are touching the POS ( + ) and NEG ( - ) on the AMP for those two steps above then this is OK.
What I want to know is.....
With ignition set to ACC, touch the probes to the REM and NEG ( - )
on the AMP. What voltage do you get ??

Thanks

Been real busy, sorry i havent checked this thread!

Got the radio issue sorted(antenna)

The amp does run power as above its 12.45v with or without acc on, too late to check if the voltage from REM terminal as ive removed the system from the car.

Am pretty convinced that its some sort pf amp issue!

If I plug my amp into my bro's setup what sort of things should i be checking to eliminate or establish the amp as the prob?
Thanks guys!
