hi, at the moment I only have a JVC 45x4 head unit, and some decent Pioneer speakers in front and back. The speakers work well except for bass so I was looking at getting a sub + amp so put in just to cover the bass so the speakers dont have too. What is a good cheap setup to get and will it work with the head unit I have? Ill try to get model information soon but im in a hurry at the moment so just post opinions here.
I was only looking at spending a few hundred dollars on it. (max 300)
Cheers,
Rod.

ok more information. The front speakers are actually the standard ford EBII 6" speakers (I think they are 6") and the rear speakers are 6" pioneer speakers. The head unit is a JVC KDS-585. Would it be better to put the pioneer speakers in the back and buy cheap 6x9s for the back and a cheap sub/amp or better to buy a slightly better sub/amp keep what I have speaker-wise?

i have a 12" Eclipse sub for sale if you want. Its a single voice coil 170wrms. $70. I only used it for a year then i upgraded cos my system is starting to get into serious mode, meaning there wsa nothing wrong with it.

At the moment I really just need someone to add me on msn that I can pepper with questions about certain speakers and stuff because I look at all different catalogues and stuff and have no real idea what it all means.

so if I were to purchase the Pioneer 12" Sub and amp package from repco for $239 would that connect straight up to my existing deck? What would be the next step from there? the most I really wanna spend on any component of the system (apart from head unit when i upgrade) is like $150 so what can I get a decent set of speakers for that price and what ones should I be looking at?

So thats a few hundred on a sub and a few hundred on an amp?

If so thats not too bad and you can certainly get something thta will sound pretty good for that money.

I would be lloking at
- Some of the lower end JL audio,
- Alpine Type R (type S if you really cant afford it)

Amp wise probably te jaycar stuff is the best val;ue for money.

What sort of set-up are you looking for? single 12" + amp? budget overall $400 - $500?

yes I was looking at single 12" + amp because I have the gas tank in my boot and as such my space is limited. I dont need the system to be really loud I just want it to be loud enough inside the car and I want to be able to feel the bass but it doesnt have to be loud. I just want something that would say rival a premium sound system in a new car not something to show off down chapel street.

hmmm yea the repco deal sounds pretty good, its a nice price and well i work at pioneer so i shall say they have the best subs in the world :D:D:D:D everyone buy pioneer :D, but yea what kinda head unit to you have? if its just stock i dont think it has line outs, if its not stock it will most likely have the rca outs then just connect the amp 2 that, hit it up with the amps onboard x-over, and bobs ur uncle
