i have 6.5" JL splits all round, some makes in the 6.5" wont fit into the factory holes but the high end JL's do. Im running a single boxed 10" JL dual v/c sub, all powered by Coustic amps. the sound is rich, punchy and clear with all sorts of music.

Not necessarily. The specification to look for is sensitivity. The more sensitive a speaker is the louder it will play for a given amount of power. i.e.

Speaker A: sens 89.3 @ 1watt
Speaker B: sens 92.3 @ 1watt

Speaker B will be 3db louder for the same amount of power.
Now you all know that 3db is twice as loud so Speaker B is twice as loud as Speaker A for the same amount of power (which is important when power is limited such as running from a headunit which are typically 15 - 18rms per channel)

One thing also to remember is that it takes an increase of 10db for humans hearing to percieve a sound as twice as loud so 3db although technically twice as loud will sound approx 25% louder, which is certainly noticable.

The Jaycar 6" splits with the tweeter mounted in the middle, best bang for your buck.

Im using the response 6 1/2" woofers front and rear, and VIFA D19 tweeters front and rear, using home made 18dB crossovers .

And yes, I totally agree with the venom subs, They put out a great sound, for what they are, Im running two 12"s in the back of my ED, and you don't need a huge box for them.

Sorry to go O/T - Alpine isn't the be all and end all of car audio gear - think outside the square mate :)

Don't get me wrong, I am a bit of an Alpine 'fan-boy' myself...but it's not about what brand is X dollars - everyone's ears are different. Also, JFYI Alpine have things made all over the world...some things are made better than others - sure they have the brand name, but it's not like you're getting F1 quality gear on an entry level deck with MP3.

As for Jaycar - have heard good things about them - personally, not a fan of the sound, but they do play loud (if you're so inclined!) - they handle lots of power (all things considered) and they're very affordable...I'd also recommend a pair of Phillips GTM-1750's for bang for your buck...although these are pretty old now...unsure if VDO have re-birthed them so to speak.

The philli[ps splits are quite good value and have been i have heard them in some very nice systems.

F1 Status gear...... NICE.........if only i had a bigger budget H900 would be a handy little tool.
