can a 12 inch sub fit in the factory parcel shelf hole in a ed

picked up one at a garage sale

No, unless you have a thick spacer to space the sub up a fair way, then it (well the a*** end of it) will fit.

You can also make an MDF spacer and attach the sub to the underside of the parcel shelf. Just remember that normal subs are not made for a infinite baffle enclosure (no box) and this can damage them and they may not sound very clean.
Alternatively you can also fab up your own MDF or fibreglass box and place it wherever you want for maximum boot space.

Was going to suggest mounting it underneath. A spacer thicker than the max excursion of the subwoofer from underneath. Cut a hole in the parcel shelf cover and get a grill if you want to show it off, or leave the carpet for a stealth look. Also if it's an enclosed sub, you can build the box underneath the parcel shelf...should leave enough room in the boot.

Cutting the actual parcel shelf requires engineering...since you are cutting something structural.
