hi guys,
i need a new battery so was wondering which one youz think is best? i was running an optima dry cell, but have only had it 18 months (!?) and its already stuffed. i often have my stereo going while im cleaning my car and it goes flat regularly, but optima claim you can recharge it 2000 times before it's useless. now ive got an 18 month $350 paperweight. to be honest i never thought it was any better than a plate battery. opinions please?

I got a century 67EF Ultra High Performance battery, pretty good i think, 480cca and 105Ah

i got a no name s**t battery world battery in my car and it is has been going strong for ages but are you running a big system or what if not maybe ya alternator isn't charging proper.. i don't understand the whole dry cell thing so i won't comment on adding fluid etc etc

The Optima's are a deep cycle battery, doesn't mean they'll cope with being run flat all the time.
My Optima Yellow Top is in it's second car now. More than 3 years old.

i really like exide batteries dad had one in his VH s**t for about 6 years
i had 1 in my EB 540cca and when i did a bbm conv and ran into issues... i did about 3 minutes of cranking and still didnt slow dont know whats in my car now... something with a weird blue sticker but its 520cca. Go with exide.

i had an optima blue top which was a boat battery, the reason being is that i used to listen to music while cleaning and washing it. it has a CCA of 880 so its good for this. i was running 2 1500rms kicker L7 subs, 1x 1500rms monoblock, 1 600rms stereo amp, 4 sets of splits and a 2.5 farad capacitor all running 0 gauge wiring. now it would only go flat if i left it when i went on hitch for 3 weeks and i would have to get a jump start. i had the battery for 3 years and never let me down.

Don't you have a warranty on the battery? I'm sure my Optima YT D34 came with a 3 or 5 year warranty. I've had no problems with mine anyway.
How did your's die? They're made to be repeatedly flattened fairly low but not to the point of not being able to start the car. So if you needed to be jump started a lot, running it that low would have been what killed it. |

The cca rating has very little bearing on a battery's appropriateness for stereo applications, cca is the measure of the battery's performance delivering high constant current for a short period of time not dynamic fluctuating current over a long period of time.
Having a high reserve current (rc) rating is more beneficial for stereo use. Deep cycle batteries are better for stereo applications providing you don't let them go too flat as running them down too low will definitely shorten their life expectancy.

Optima Yellow top would be the go.
Odessy i have had nothing but trouble with and on two sewperate occasions they have not honored their warranty.

I bought EXIDE 550 on my V8 Fairlane around early 2002 and still cranking very good at present. The best battery i ever had.

Delkor batteries are the best in my opinion for normal batteries. like sub $200 range.
