Hi all,

I have just purchased a 96 EF11 Futura and am going to replace the standard tape deck with a CD player. I noticed that the rear speakers are labelled as Pioneer. Not sure what the front ones are?

My mate works for Sony & said he can get stuff at a discount for me but Sony tends to get a bagging from some members & this has me a little worried.

Cheers

i had a pair of sony 6's in the rear of my EF - will never go near sony speakers ever. they cost me a fortune, and blew within a year - without me even pushing them very hard. i've decked the car out with pioneer all-round now, and couldn't be happier

stockos are pioneer front and rear. amp those lttle puppies and they will sound better than the sony's. Not sure what price those heaps of s**t go for these days i do know you canet the pioneer TSC 3 way 6"s for about $160 atm. a good speaker and will do a bloody good job if you just want to hear some musik. if budgetis still lower i know Kenwoods entry level 6"s are under $100 these days and are a fairly reliable speaker, considering my rears are still punching hard as.

I never push one brand and discount all others, in fact my system consists of 7 different brands of equipment & a i happily admit a number of other companies make quality stuff also, so i believe i offer unbiased opinions based on ACTUAL experience and if i dont have experience about a particular brand then i wont comment.

That said.

I would NEVER buy Sony car audio.

I have had a number of bad experiences with poor equipment, poor support service and have first hand experience with others who have had the same problems. Even if you can get it for COST from your mate i would look at anything else you can before SONY (except maybe BOSS).

Speaker wise there is a heap available, go to yuor local car audio store (even an autobarn will do) and have a it of a listen to what you might be thinking about. Establish a price point so you cna stick to speakers in that range. i.e. your budget might be $350 for front 6.5" splits.

If you get it down to a couple of models your happy with and still can't decide then you can put up another post and ask others how they have found those models if they have been using them? also considder final pice, ease of installation (depth of speaker etc..)

I must comment on this saying that sony speakers in my setup are the only part of the setup that is letting me down. These are 2 12" subbies, and they just don't have the clarity as the rest of the system does. Definately not a sharp sounding speaker at all, and fairly poor sounding bass.

On the other hand, the Sony TV and DVD player I couldn't be happier with. So in saying that I wouldn't go adding sony speakers to you setup, but would not hesitate in recommending the electronics. However my opinion of Sony is low with standard head units, as I've had one in my old system and they tend to have a lack of functions.

Good comment and i should have clarified, I quite like a number of other Sony products home audio and portable just not the car stuff. Can't comment no sceen's or as i have had no experience but headunit i have found t be average at best, quality and after sales service. DVD players may be different.......

unfortunately, sony have really dropped their game over the last few years.

they used to make truly fantastic products, especially in home audiovisual, and this was well known and documented, and pretty much all their products were made in japan.

know its all taiwanese rubbish, apart from the really high end av gear, and just aint what it used to be unfortunately.

after having dealt with many a dissatisfied customer (i used to work in AV) and horrible customer service, i would not go anywhere near sony.
