Hi, I have just installed a new CD player into my el xr6 last week and now if i turn the car off for about an hour it resets all the settings on the head unit, But if i turn the car off and then turn it back on about 5 minutes later it will remember the settings. I have used the wiring light and have definitly got constant and acc power. Any info would be much apprieciated.
Thanks in advance

you should have 2 power wires going to the head unit, the main one is for the accessories switch where, when you turn off the car, there is no power going thru it, and the other, should have constant power even if the ignition is switched off.. the constant powered wire, is the one that holds the settings.. hopefully its earthed properly, other than that, sorry but cant help you unless its faulty..??.. or just not wired up right..

your memory (in most cases yellow) wire has to go to a constant 12v source, you may find the wire you have it on is the cars mem wire
i had this issue with my girlfriends mirage,
the wire i had it spliced into (i thought constant 12v) was a wire that stayed live for 1 hour after the ignition was turned off, to prevent flat car battery from its stock headunit

try to find a new constant 12v wire and it should fix your problem

In the El's there is a constant 12v connection in the wiring going to the factory head unit, have you used this connection?
When you say that after 5 mins it remembers the settings, is that the previous settings or do you have to reset everything each time?

You said you used a wiring light, a test lamp I assume - you should know if and when the power is there. Have you re-checked after an hour? If nothing is changing then its the head unit or your connections to it.
Sounds like the permanent power is wrong.

Cheers,
C

Is that 7 now?

Maybe you have some dodge wiring, check if there is still power there after an hour, if there isn't then you can either work out the wiring or just run an extra constant +12v line in.

Is the glovebox light a constant power? From memory it is... it's pretty close to tap into..

So have you checked the constant 12v to see if it is in fact still present say an hour later like mentioned above?
