Hey im just wondering if anybody has fitted 19s to their ef? Im planing on purchasing some soon but i remember reading somewhere that they arnt a straight fit? or something need to be modified? or maybe that was for 20s i cant remember. Anyway any help would be great.

Ahh righto thats fine. I just remembered something about modifying the spindles to fit big rims on the e series. I must have read wrong. Thanks for that.

they bolt straight up you dont event have to roll gaurds though depends how low mate has some on his ef ghia

If you can get them rolled, its a good idea, if you want the car low.
Also depends on the width of the rim and offset, but there shouldnt be a problem. It isn't on my EL. |

personally i wouldnt advise over 18s are your going very low in profile and are more prone to a flat/buckled rim/flats as well because of sucha low profile and all impact goin to the wheel
18s more then big enuff, and tyre pricing on 19s aint nice.. unless u get cheapo ew

mate has 20's on his ef, fitted strait on tho i think it does scrape on the guard when he hooks it round corners but i dont think he has too many prbs.. thats lowered about 5cm too so id say 19s with pretty low profile would be good depending on what height ur sitting

You need more than a rubber band hanging onto the road if you want decent handling.
20's are just far too big and are simply for show... even 19's are too big for anything but show IMHO. As stated previously, going 19's or 20's it's really easy to buckle a rim or blow out a tyre and you don't even need to hit a kerb. There's PLENTY of roads all over the country with dodgy spots that will buckle a rim and blow out a tyre just by driving over it. Plus, going with rims that size you need to be dynamite on your tyre pressures. You need to be running tyre pressures much higher than standard, probably around the 45-50psi mark. Let them drop too low, or even if you're unaware of the tyre pressure required and go the standard 30-32psi and you'll stuff up a very expensive set of tyres plus the car won't handle at all well. |

need i mention the illegality of such things? last time i checked, you could only go a +2 fitting, which means for a humble ED (frinstance) that came with those lovely ford 15's, i can only legally put on 17's.... (might be different in non-NSW?)

Its legal if your insurance covers it, most will cover it as long as the offset is good and the wheel doesnt hang out of the guards thats all.
You can quite easily put 20s on there without a problem, just insurance is the issue really. But as said by myseld and and woja, its really not worth it for the looks as you'll be spending more. Remember guys bigger wheels DO NOT mean more tread/grip. Decent tyres do. I currently have 18s with 245s and 265s on the rear, and im telling you with my 17s before on and 235 michelin or bridgestones on it gets just as much grip/if not more.. Im goin back to 245s all round or 235s in a couple weeks as no huge diff noticed at all. If you buy 20s, or 19s.. buy a 5th wheel cuz you will need it eventually! esp if their chrome, chrome rims buckle much easier |

You may have to roll guards if you lower it too low or your wheels/tyres are too wide.

well bugger me....
just looked on the RTA website, and dowloaded the "wheels and tyres" guidelines..... quotes from that source: "As a general rule, it is recommended you only fit wheels and tyres that are listed on the tyre placard or in the owner’s handbook. These have been tested and proved for your car. Sometimes the range of wheels listed by the manufacturer may appear to be limited. While it is recommended that you only fit these wheels, the RTA does not oppose the fitting of wheels outside the range providing they are safe for the vehicle. " as long as the diameter of the tyre and wheel combo does not vary from stock by more than 15mm, you're sweet with the RTA.... you can't go over a +2 fitting width-wise, but you can get an engineers certificate to exceed this... i'm stunned......on my way to get some 18's now!

In Vic I'm fairly certain that you go any size on any car, but if you exceed more than two inches over stock in diameter you need to get the speedo re-calibrated....

I was told by the local rta that u cant go more than 2 inches bigger then the biggest available rim on that car, ie el gt had 17s so in theory 19s would be legal on a el.
