just interested in buy some wheel and dont want anything that will be illegal for the car..are 20's too big (illegal) if so what is the biggest legal size cheers.. any help will be great

Reading that VicRoads link, it would appear that 17" would be the max as it states "15mm over the largest size wheel available for that model" and 15mm isn't an inch so 18" or larger would be out of the question.

Wheel = rim + rubber.
Meaning you can run 20s as long as the total rolling diameter does not exceed a stock 205/65/15s rolling diameter by more than 15mm. |

Sorry for misleading but to me a Wheel is just that, a wheel.
We sell Wheels and Tyres separate, in 42 years never heard of wheels being + a tyre. |

Well if you read that link it actually says:

I think you'll find the biggest issue will be with the width. If your vehicle had stock rims (as per placard on your vehicle) that were 6" wide then your max is 7" wide. Not going to get many 20" rims that are 7" wide. Also remember that insurance have different rules as well. So check with them as well before buying rims.

Yeh, but 16s were optional across the board, and were 16x7 rims so should be fine there. 15x7 were on XRs std as well.

An accepted rule of thumb by NSW highway patrol is no larger than +2 diameter from biggest option rim for the paticular model and no more than +1.5" width from largest option tyre. No increase in track is permitted and no items that allow fitting of different offset wheel. ie spacers.
That being said, there either needs to be a blitz on or you need to be acting the tard for them to pin you. its the easiest thing for them to hit you on too. Of course this is not gospel, your luck may suck and you pinged as you leave the tyre shop.

EL GT and FBT were the 1st falcon based vehicles to use 17's. Depending on the model in question your both right.

In NSW you are allowed to fit wheels that are up to 26mm wider than the manufacturer’s specified wheels without needing to notify the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA). Increases in wheel track can’t be increased by more than 25mm beyond manufacturer’s specification. The diameter of the new wheel and tyre combination can’t be more than 15mm beyond the largest diameter combination specified by the manufacturer for that car. My BA the max is 7" wide, so i can legally run my BA XR 18x8's but i cant run BA GT rims. |
