do the whole fairlane garnish with fairlane tailights

OR

a fairmont spear on its own

either way will look good, but boot spoilers suck, and make the car look 10" taller

Thats's ok.. I'm planning on lowering it by that much anyway... :-)

I don't like the spears all that much to be honest.. but I do like the fairlane garnish so my goal is to get the garnish to fit and leave the spear off completely... nice and different.

Hey guys anyone want to photoshop an ef fairmont rear de-badged and with just the chrome numberplate surround and spear?

I think that would look pretty shmick

EF/EL spear will not work with the Fairlane number plate surround.
as the spear is square where it meets the number plate and the number plate surround is all rounded.

Just a thought, what do you plan to do with the boot lock? on Fairlanes it's under the 'Ghia' emblem top, centre. Otherwise looks like your on the right path.

I was giving serious consideration to removing the boot lock.. don't need it anyway.... but if I swap to a fairlaine boot.. may be less work.. will see.

A Fairlane boot will be more work, they're longer.

crap.. really? was hoping they were the same length..

OK, well if the NL lights stick out futher than the EL lights, the boot change may not be necessary.. but even if it is.. I have a mig and a spare EL boot anyway so can join the back of the NL to the front of the EL if needed...

won't know for sure till I get a NL boot and taillights..

Actually, there is some way that an owner of an NF/NL can help me..

I need a photo of the car.. with the boot open, looking down onto the top of one of the lights..

and another of the same with the boot shut..

I think the NF/NL lights protrude at the back futher than EL so they match up with the half inch thick rear garnish.. need to verify that because it'll be easier if they do protrude futher out.

can I bother one of you kind souls for some images? :-)

Will take some pics ofmine for ya and post tonight. Re bootlock, I've had my Fairlane 12 years and only ever used it once so yeah removal Might not hurt but if like me you have a LPG tank in there there's no access in the event of an electrical issue. Also was wondering how carried away you want to get I've seen several V8 NF/NL's seling for around $3,500 last few months. looked at 1 the other day for that, 180k's on it and a moonroof, prolly coulda knocked em down too, this ToyMota dealership had it out on the road coz 'too old' for them, lol! ( too ballsy too, heh heh) made all those uglyassed ooorreeeons look cheap an nasty.

I know some people who wreck fairlanes, once I work out what is needed, I'll take an angle grinder up there and cut the light surrounds off the fairlane and take the boot and all other bits I might need too..

exciting, but I have a project where I'm trying to shoehorn a supercharged water to air intercooled engine in as well and that has priority.... will get there eventually though..

waiting on the manual 5spd now, so perhaps if it doesn't come along soon I will do this instead.

Photos would be much appreciated sir... help me figure out what needs to be done for it to work.

Note how far the tailights wrap round the guards as compared to Falcon/Fairmont.

yeah... very different..

That helps.. I may need to take some measurements to work out if the swap is even feasable...

I'm surprised they made it so hard.. I thought for cost saving they'd want to keep as many panels compatible as possible..
